So, I really don't care for labels, but I guess they can be useful when describing a "type".

So just curious, where do young, smoothish muscled guys fit? They're young and smooth, but not "twinks" as I understand it, as twinks are on the thinner side.

They're definitely not 'muscle bear" being smooth aka little to no body hair. I think "cub" also refers to a type of man with hair(/)

Is there an actual term that applies to them?

What about "hunk" or "fitness boy"? :D

Not sure they are labels, more like categories.

All males are “dudes” regardless of age. It's a safe term for one guy to use without appearing to know too much about the “vibes” another guy gives out.

Labels are so tiring and oppressive.

It's always interesting to see which people are obsessed with labeling and qualifying every person they know

The gay comunity is. Hence, the ridiculous acroym: LGBTQIA+. Apparently, absolutely everyone needs a label. Hell, I think the plus sign indicates more labels are forthcoming!

Great thought. Twinks, studs, and hunks can all come in “jock flavor”.

Guess what we are working on is a taxonomy structure for gay guys. Taxonomy being the practice and science of classification.

Grocery store is a good example of how to organize items with common connections.

I think you have the right idea here. It’s not so much “labels” the OP seems to be looking for, but type classifications, or as you pointed out, “taxonomy”.

I’ve always been at a loss for how to categorize my own body type. I’m quite smooth naturally, but almost all of the type categories are for hairy men: bear, cub, otter, etc. There aren’t many animals out there that are smooth, and the ones that are, aren’t particularly flattering (snake, lizard, shark, and least of all naked mole rat!). I suppose dolphin might make a semi-flattering type category for in-shape smooth men who have long outgrown the twink/twunk stage.

Here’s a fun article about gay types: Twink, Bear, Wolf: A Guide To The Types Of Gay Men

Yes, I knew somebody would get dumb over the word "label", but at the time it was the only term that I could come up.with.

"Taxonomy" and/or "Classification" is closer to what I was asking.

Thank you :)

Around the third time a cowboy took offense to me just tossing that word around, I decided the cowboys were right, and not every man is a dude.

Any idea why your cowboy guy did not go along with the term “dude”?

Labels suck when they are used for negative (pejorative) reason. And there are plenty of other discussions on LPSG where issues with labeling are hashed out so I am trying to steer clear of those thoughts.

Taxonomies on the other hand do a great job in helping to organize a lot of the crazy things going on around us. Just about anything we think or do during the day works off of some “logical” taxonomy (as long as you don’t move into another culture).

One example was the TV show, “Third Rock From The Sun”. Their constant source of humor dealt with how they interpreted American thinking.

However taxonomies for Gay guys might be put together (and there could many ways), basically they will form up along three lines of thought.

1. Form (what guys look like, how old they are, how they group themselves……)

2. Function (what they do not only sexually but in life roles)

3. Content (body types, basic skills, race, health…..)

Omg. I never knew the difference between a stud and a hunk. Now I know. I prefer hunks.

But how would a “jock” differentiate?

I also think there are different sub-levels of stud and hunk. Gym bunny. Gym junkie. Muscle Mary. I would think muscle Mary’s are the biggest (think Zeb Atlas, yum!)

Three. Three cowboys on separate occasions. No idea if they even knew each other. They weren't mine. I was just talking to strangers, as is my habit.

Dude is the opposite of a cowboy. Dudes pretend to be cowboys, for fun. Cowboys do not respect dudes.

Originally, 'man' was not a usage of the word dude.

I got in trouble for using the term ‘gay’ on Friday. He preferred a more formal LGBTQ+ usage when referring to the community. It’s kind of a mouthful when you’re being casual. I was talking specifically about men, though, so I don’t know what the hell I was supposed to say.

You, my lovely, in my opinion, did nothing wrong. Nada. Zilch. Especially in a casual setting among those you know.

Your "friend" would have huge issues with me, and I'm a gold-star, lol. Seriously. I use the word "gay" most all the time to refer to members of the LGBTQ community.

Sometimes being "politically correct" can be so tiresome...especially in non-formal, casual situations.

Strikes me as him being a little pompous, but hey, whatever with some folks. I'd say just keep on keepin' on, and let whomever worry about HIS issues. Cuz I sure don't see one here.
