(talkin as if i know all about this stuff/and i sure DONT)
but i have taken to MAXTHON ..ideal for opening many LPSG threads (billions of chinese use it apparently..so they cant all be wrong??? ha)
btw Googles gmail has been Slow as ...whatever ..since the beginning of the year
just need to download something..and the ass will ask you to check yr internetconnection - ( im am on dial-up tho) but was never like that' previously

interesting Vince re FF3
Mine is also Jumping' when typing..and very slow to load..hence my use of Maxthon..(ideal when you only have an hour or so of Laptop Power)
However i usually type into NOTEPAD (advanced version) and then cut&paste into a thread to post....but even the bloody typing into the Notepad..its bloody jumping also..i wonder if that FF3 has fckd things up..as only happened when ff3 was playing up
When i have time i think i will totally get rid of ff3...and see if theres any improvement..AND eventually go back to ff2
(will post results IF there is any change)
OK i was typing replies to yr post and reading yr post at the same time
I am NOW..also going to take yr reco and try CHROME again...hahaa

Anyhow, back to Firefox. Since upgrading to FF3 three weeks ago, I have been having major issues with it.

I too started having problems w/ the new FF up?grade. It was just slow as molasses. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. I tried opera but missed the spell check feature of FF. So I've been using Chrome for a week and it's as good as the old FF.

I have been using Firefox for quite a while, without any problems. The only times it has shut down were at MySpace.

I have been wondering for a while about Chrome, I did not download it and use it on my old computer because the processor is slow and the ram small, I thought it used more than firefox. Recently got a new computer, I caused some problems with it by installing my Photoshop 4, which interfered with a lot of things, and would not uninstall. I tried to download and install Chrome, without success. After doing a system restore to get rid of the photoshop, I tried again with Chrome, again without success. I since downloaded it and installed it on my old computer without any difficulty.

Interesting Kalipygan
as i just re-booted my Comp and got the Chrome up..i had downloaded it 6 months previous..but never used it save a few days trial
Clicked on it..and damn well near INSTANT..it appeared...with the 4 items i had previously had on the Tabs...lpsg was one of them
Soooooooooooooo saying..bloody Instant

The only issue I seem to have with FF 3.0.5 is it is about as slow as XP itself when starting. It never use to be this way.

I don't use google Chrome as much any more. Why? I get this stupid "Proxy" message in the status bar. The page never loads. I reported it several times when it happened but damn I don't get paid to beta test so now when that happens I start FF and Viola, instant web site.

In those cases, FF usually asks to write a cookie so I am thinking maybe this is a Chrome cookie issue?

Oh, one more thing, it auto-fills passwords and I am not so sure that is as secure as FF that asks for the master PW first before filling in PW's on individual sites.

The Chrome I downloaded yesterday is improved from when I tried it last summer.

Java works with it.

The spell check works the same as FFox.

Like rbkwp noted, it loads instantly. The FF3 release seems as slow as Internet Explorer now.

I was getting the cursor jumping around thing in other apps too. I completely removed FF3 from my system and that has stopped. I thought it was another Vista issue but maybe it had something to do with Firefox.

I like the way Chrome handles bookmarks as well. As with Gmail, they are stored on the Google server. So you can access them from any computer.

15shooter, mine's not auto-filling passwords. I think that's a setting you can control. Also I haven't got any proxy messages. Maybe you could download a newer release. The one I got is definitely better than it was last summer.

One downside is that it appears that ZoneAlarm Forcefield is not compatible with Chrome. I need to figure out another anti-phishing, anti-keystroke logging program. Also, the right click contextual menu does not have a "search Google" item. It's back it copy/pasting for that.

Again Vince
I am more than impressed with Google Chrome
WHY!
because it just crashed..??
ie..I started to direct type into a LPSG thread..-trialing-
and it crashed (asking 1st-that it had to close etc)
THEN Chrome apologixed..and had a little 'restore' your previous tabs button..and shit again
Really and truly INSTANTLY..it restored all 6 or so tabs i had open (FF was never so quick? or generous..haha)
I Am impressed ...but this is the Chrome i downloaded 6 months ago...and i am not taking any chances at this time..by downloading the later version..HAPPY with this old one....dont know where to go to get the ver # for this one?
Aside f rom that i wonder if FF3 is still conflicting things?? ( i am blaming it anyway at this time) and stopping me from typing ie (jumping-as we talked about)

So for sure i am going to get rid of FF# later today
Will post results

(realize also i may be just having a decent run at th emo-with the comp browsers..? haha)

I have version 1.0.154.43 and it reports that I am up to date *however* on the Chrome main page it states compatibility with "Vista/XP SP2" but I have XP SP3.

I'll check the settings further but do you have this same version?

I don't use ZA anymore because McAfee came with my Dell XPS and is also provided by my ISP. Good luck with that.

I would imagine that the right click search functionality is no longer needed due to all you do to search in Chrome is start typing in the address bar. It takes a while to get use to doing that.

I noticed that Google is now iGoogle with a new Beta so they are up to all kinds of new stuff. I also think that Chrome is the browser they use on the T-Mobile G1 cell phone.

This version claims to be 0.0.0.0... What's up with that? I dunno. Whatever... it's working. I haven't had a crash or a slow slowdown yet.

I was wrong about it not have a search feature in the right click drop down menu. It works the same as FF.

The ZoneAlarm firewall/anti-virus is compatible with Chrome. It's the ZA Forcefield product that isn't supported.

I have an iGoogle page and when I wanted to go to Google the broswer was jumping to the page. Which I found annoying. But then I noticed there is a link on the igoogle page labeled "Classic". Clicking that restored the normal Google page and now the browser always returns to it.

This is a well behaved piece for software. Google corp. may be trying to take over the internet or something, and am usually paranoid about that kind of shit, but their products are pretty good.

I had never heard of Maxthon before this post, but I downloaded it to give it a shot. Seems to be doing alright so far. It's handling another site I frequent better than FF. That site has features that only IE users can use, I was never able to with FF. Maxthon handled it just fine.

I've tried Chrome as well. It is fast, just no frills. Something that will take getting used to after being spoiled by FF. FF and chrome are the same style of format, and for the most part chrome is pretty darn good, the difference is that FF is a truly tabbed browser and Chrome is a skin for windows. What that means is though it is faster than IE you are still opening a new window each time you hit a tab thus using alot of virtual memory. FF just uses one window with real tabs that dont run a new task every time.

Cheers Mr HC
Good to read yr getting some benefits from Maxthon
I am a browser freak
(Have/use em all? ha)
Appreciate also the explanation of ff vs chrome etc
