It affects me that they travel the world during a worldwide pandemic while pretending to be successful models from wealthy backgrounds when in fact all they do is lay on their backs to afford that lifestyle, edit their photos heavily and take steroids to build muscle. They give a very unrealistic, unnatural and unhealthy image of what kind of life a gay guy should be living. Instagram is a big lie.
Short version:
Attacking the men you think have fallen into a certain trap is not helpful.
Long version:
Concerning the pandemic: The world has terrible leaders in the UK, Brazil and had the worst president in the US until recently. And people still gossip with allegations against people they really don't know. Why waste energy into that? And gays against gays? Now I'm doing it too (but just for three sentences): no wonder you've quoted the Daily Mail aka the Daily Hate (Luke Evans) because you have an incredible view full of negative stereotypes. Your steroid is probably body fat... -
I don't want to hurt your feelings - just demonstrating how easy assumptions can be made. I think the way you look down on other men, gay men mostly known for their bodies is... "unnatural and unhealthy"? The point isn't whether it's unrealistic (because sometimes it's true) but why do you care?
Writing such comments in a forum where pornographic images of men are exchanged is a bit hypocritical. You know that and because of it you try to distance yourself with a moral attitude. It's not an article in the New York Times about exploited male models you've commented. In the past I've worked with models and I've known guys who were escorting for a time. They were all different. Anyone had a reason to do what they did. Why judge them? The economic dependencies in some marriages or other relationships aren't that rosy for many either. The same can be said about many jobs.
Travelling through the world also isn't that simple these days. Please don't blame people who just follow the existing rules and fly if possible. Save the shame exclusively for those who are responsible for unnecessary flights - the rules that are not strict enough for you are made by politicians.
IG is a parallel world, yes. I recall the body image discussion when MTV was big in the mid-80's, iconic photos by Bruce Weber and Herb Ritts... Men's Health and the first male supermodels in the 1990's... MySpace in the 2000's lol...Grindr... nothing new here.
If people have a problem with their self-esteem or self-awareness it's a psychological problem. But as with anorexia it's not coming from visuals of other people, it's from a wrong perception of one self that is rooted somewhere else. Just remember those body image problems existed long before Michelangelo created David. Nevertheless media savvy education in schools could help to understand differentiation.
