Looking for feedback, looking into joining a gym. Never joined one before besides college.

I plan to go after work. If I want to go and use the sauna/steam room in the locker room, should I assume I can just walk into the sauna with just a towel wrapped around? OR do normal gyms typically require you to wear a bathing suit underneath?

When using the showers can I walk from my locker in a towel and barefoot to the shower?

Just got mixed signals and I dont want to ask "staff" at the gym what the policies are, I feel like i would be the only one asking about steamroom/sauna policy...When I toured Lifetime Fitness in Bridgewater NJ, everyone seemed so cover up so not sure like what to do... I assume I can just keep an eye out and see what others do??

Assuming that neither sauna nor showers are co-ed (men and women) you can certainly feel fine to walk around the change-rooms and enter the sauna wearing only a towel.

Here's a shocker: you can also walk around the locker area and change-rooms naked.

Yeah i saw in another forum some gyms putting signs up must be covered all times.

I'll add that you should never walk around barefoot in a locker room. It's really easy to pick up athlete's foot or (even worse) toe nail fungus. Always bring shower shoes.
I think most people expect a certain degree of nudity in any space in a gym that isn't co-ed. I've found that, if a gym has a no nudity policy signs will be posted.
If you don't like the vibe at that gym, find another one. Most offer free trial memberships.

Assuming the sauna is male only, you can walk to the sauna with a towel wrapped around your waist. You should be sitting on your towel in the sauna. Depending upon the vibe, you can uncover yourself which is the way it should be as you are all guys. I would wear shower shoes in the gym as you do not want to get athletes foot. The only problem walking to the sauna or showers from your locker with a towel around your waist is that you are sweaty. This is the reason most guys would just walk with their towel casually in front of them not really try to cover up.

Any steam rooms for saunas (men only, NOT coed) that have rules such as wearing a bathing suite or keeping a towel on usually have that posted on the steam room or sauna door. Just look around for any signage or posting around them.

Even if they do have signs, many guys will open the towel and just relax
