Here for the past several weeks while I'm in the gym working out. I've noticed a couple of other dudes will be trying to occupy two different machines at the same time. What is up with that?

The other morning I was about to get on the decline leg press, this guy on the machine next to it says I'm using that. I'm like ok I'll be finished in a few mins. How are you using two machines at the same time?

I can understand completely going from machine to machine and back doing your sets. When I've used the cable pulls, row, and lat machines I've never mined if someone jumped in while I was using the other one.

Anyone else encountered this?

Supersets I have used 2 different pieces of equipment, but like you said...we Work In when we're doing this.
At my last gym the Crossfit Guys said that constantly. They would tie up 3 or more pieces of equipment for long periods of time. I guess that's why I still do more free weights now.

There's definitely 2 kinds of guys that use supersets in the gym.
1) Guys that understand how supersets work
2) Guys that "think" they know what supersets are and really are just taking multiple machines.

There's a guy at my gym that will be "using" 5 or 6 machines at once. You won't know. You'll have no idea. You'll go to the Smith Machine because you haven't seen anyone there for 20 minutes but someone left their weights on. You'll remove the weights. You'll put heavier weights on. You'll start your workout on the Smith Machine. Grumpy McGrumperson will show up out of nowhere and say "I'm using that."

Most frustrating thing for me at the gym...after those that don't rerack!

Yeah I can't stand guys like that. They are pretty much saying that their time is more valuable than yours. If I leave a piece of equipment then I have no expectation that it will be available when I come back to it.

This doesn’t happen much at my current gym but I’ve definitely encountered it in the last. Like others have said, it’s usually done by those who don’t actually understand the principle of supersets. Or sometimes it’s just rude people. Plenty of people just like to work on their ego instead of actually improving their health, especially at less expensive gyms in my experience.

I see it sometimes. The most recent occurrence wasn’t anything weightlifting related but it was a treadmill. One of the ones that can go to a high incline. This one guy came up and out his stuff on it then immediately went to the bathroom for like 30 mins. It was insane.

there are only two treadmills like that and a lot of people use them for high incline low speed (30, 3.5) a nice easy way to burn fat if you don’t feel like running.

I used to do this a long time ago when I was still working out, with supersets BUT I had a workout buddy and we would be doing this together, so the two of us would occupy two pieces of equipment which seems fair to the rest of people.

Superset, and yes I do it too!!! nut on the days i'm gonna do them I try and come in early or go late then its not so busy out of respect.... some guys are just dicks. we have a few guys that workout together and will tie up 3 and 4 machines at a time. most of them will let you jump in if they see you waiting.
