That is a very interesting possibility.When we see "bulges" like the ones in this photo, it is clear that the guys put some kind of cloth or something similar into the underwear/shorts to avoid details being visible. Or was that already built in?
Lots of swimsuits had modesty panels of a thicker fabric in the front. I've seen this discussed before. You see it more common in American swimsuits of the past, which were more like briefs with a belt, than the German and European badehose, which was more like a speedo, and had strings on one side of the body that you tied together. I think this is partially responsible why trunks are so common in the U.S. as swimwear, while speedos are definitely considered exotic and "European" (or unfortunately worn by old people who you wish wouldn't.) The badehose clearly reveals more than the thick American shorts.That is a very interesting possibility
