But in the days before the Internet I am sure they thought no one would ever see them - only the person who took the photo and in these pictures that was a friend / comrade / fellow soldier who was probably taking it to show daily life.

It never occurred to the guys in the pictures that someday these would all be on line where any computer in the world could see them.
