Of course, you are right to cite the country of origin as a factor in how many of these photos came about. It just hasn't always occurred to me that many of them were likely taken in countries where the attitudes about nudity have always been far more liberal than they have ever been in puritanical America.
It’s can also be weird to think that in America an X-rated movie won best picture at the Academy awards in 1969 (Midnight Cowboy). A movie that featured porn theaters and male on male sex and a main character who was a male hustler.
Porn and stripper music had gotten kind of normalized/mainstream in the late 1960s.
A number one hit was called simply “The Stripper”. Was a song often used for strip tease at bars, clubs and burlesque joints. There are many different theories why this all happened but it did happen. And of course we couldn’t imagine the Oscar being given to an X-rated film in the 1940s and 1950s or soon after it happened in 1969 despite Americas fascination with Deep Throat, Debbie Does Dallas, Linda Lovelace and Behind The Green Door.
“Deep Throat” was even the code name for a main character in the Watergate Scandal, and gave information to the reporters who broke the scandal. Making it even more mainstream.
The x rated movies were all hugely popular and then the 1970s were over. Male frontal nudity was illegal till 1968. That change alone could account for some things happening soon after.
But who really knows.
