Hi guys,

I'm a new member here. My name is Jake and I'm 18. I just moved to LA for school. I am from a small conservative town in Northern California and very happy to be in the big city.

I want to better understand how gay hook up culture works because I think my perception may be skewed from watching porn. I'm at an elite school and in a frat, so there are a lot of hot guys around me. Nearly everyone is on Prep and Doxy, which is great and I feel like I can have sex freely and safely.

My questions are (1) when you are going to hook up, is it rude to ask people their HIV status?, (2) do you ask for permission to cum inside a guy or do they usually expect it?

I know these may sound like strange questions, but I recently hooked up with a frat brother this weekend and asked his status. He is negative, but he seemed off put by the question. I ended up fucking him and cumming inside him, which he loved, but he texted me today saying that I should have warned him that I was about to fill him up. I get it, but he told me he kept the load inside him all day and wanted more today, so I'm not sure if it a game or not. I'm just trying to figure out what the "correct" way to explore things.

It’s best to assume everyone who bareback is either positive (and undetectable or not) or on PrEP. If you’re on PrEP and willing to bareback, asking is superfluous as he could easily lie. You need to take responsibility for your sexual health and make your choices independent of what he might say.

It’s been a long time since I’ve met anyone that barebacks that didn’t also want the load, although that used to be a thing before PrEP. One way around the issue is to ask him if he wants your load before you shoot. That way he has a chance to say no and it’s also a form of dirty talk that can be quite hot.

I really wish PrEP were around when I was in college!
