Simple answer is China will SPY on the United States !!
Off-topic, sorta, but I once met a contractor at work who said he worked in anti-cyber-terrorism. I said, does it happen much? He said the Chinese are trying it every damn day.

I added the damn part.

Yup. The logs of blocked access and rejected pings can be quite revealing.

A

USA is trying to protect its interests
like Russia being more advanced in the earlier days
its likely pissed off China seems to be much more advanced with its 5G network etc

yes of course China will spy on the USA

would the opposite happen,without Huawei

wont talk about Gary Powers USA SPY plane being shot down by Russia,,and his arrest
oh, cold war, so that is ok by American standards right

many countries are allowing/trusting Huawei now
that must mean a lot

guts of it all

the USA is selfish, whereas China is hell bent on sharing, with the world
spying is just a small side benefit

Huawei is challenging the US for world dominance in communication technology, and the US doesnt like that. Under world trade rules, national interest is a permitted way to get companies banned from selling to your citizens. You cannot ban them just because they make better cheaper stuff than the US, but you can for spying.

In the UK the US is trying to pressure the UK to ban Huawei also, but so far anyway the Uk is proposing to only allow it a certain market share. Not having a comms industry worth mentioning, we prefer to divvy up the market between the possible suppliers so we dont become over reliant on any. Doesnt really make sense at all if we think someone is spying, but makes perfect sense economically.

It is important not to be naive about China. The rules for warfare have changed. Technology not bombs will destroy the US.
yes, but the weapons may simply be economic. Making better and cheaper consumer goods.

One would think that two giant countries whose giant economies are so completely and intricately meshed would want to get along better for the mutual benefit of both.

Oh this tribal species... ;)

China represents one quarter of the world population - since earliest records. It has never seen itself as having an equal. The humiliation of the last 150 is seen as a minor blip. China since the 'Liberation' by Communists has been a military dictatorship it is not like any other country. It is not benign, neither is it an economy based on warmongering with a manufacturing economy based on arms production. Sooner or later through economic, technological and diplomatic developments the US will find it is losing sovereignty over its country and citizens.

Well the CCP writes the history books. There have been troublemakers but Tibet and Taiwan will eventually be part of China. The US is seen as very young and perhaps unevolved there is also the legacy of 18thC European thought that the US was a mistake. China is interesting and worth paying attention to. Vigilance not demonisation is important but Huawei is not to be understood in terms of conventional US corporate thinking. The threat is new and needs to be considered carefully. Surveillance is a major part of state apparatus in China and a massive employer.

Someone I met, who was in cyber security for one of our big banks, said they would log millions of hack attempts every month. Majority were offshore.
