The best cure is to get out of rink. They are too busy, skill levels are mismatched, and often the ice during free skate is so scarred, it can trip up even experienced skaters. If you can find a frozen canal, or lake, especially during this time of year, get out there, and just go. It's like the first time you stood at the top of black diamond run, you have to figure out how to go down the hill with some degree of control/grace. Skating is the same way. I was lucky enough to learn on canals. It was awesome, nothing else compares.

True. I managed to collide with Peggy Fleming once. It was my fault and she was very sweet about it.

I enjoy Ice Skating. Went last year about twice at least but before then hadn't been for several years (think last time was 2006). I keep near the edges, but I can skate around without holding on for a bit, even though I'm no pro or anything.
