Ig: pilotpatrick

I'll prefacing this by saying that most pilots are absolutely fine to fly with.
This happens anywhere when you work together with other people. If you are not able to accept each others options to be different from yours, you are not ready to work in groups.

Indeed, yet here we are.

And gay people in the aviation industry is not a new thing and a revolutionary thing. It really comes from long ago.. most of the men cabine crews are openly gays, so the pilots have the contact with them working daily.
I never said that it was. And just because someone works around gays (or trans, or any minority) doesn't necessarily they don't have backwards thoughts about them.

I've certainly heard homophobic things said in the crew room and have heard plenty of stuff that borders on it in the flight deck. And this is at an airline which is very progressive and outwardly lgbtq supporting. Heck, there's even some planes in rainbow liveries.

Southwest Airlines Pilot Suspended After Profanity Laced Tirade

Southwest is an airline at the opposite end of the spectrum, culturally (their pilots meow and call out 'lets go brandon' on frequency all the time), but you get the idea.

A few other cases:

New head of United Airlines pilot union resigns after online comments

Qantas slams sexist posts on ‘boys’ club’ pilot forum

Pilot caught on camera writing pro-Trump graffiti, racial slurs at Tallahassee airport

BA pilots suspended over 'racism' and image of man having sex with chicken

Not all those cases are homophobic, but it's not hard to imagine that they hold similar views on the lgbt community. And of course those are just the ones who get caught/identified.

You just need to be respectful, you don’t need to like everyone and how people are, but being respectful is the minimum to have a peaceful working place.
Agreed. Unfortunately things aren't always as they should be. Lots of senior flight crew were first hired by their airline ~25-30 years ago, before personability was a trait that gets assessed during the hiring process.

The only thing worse than flying with a captain who can't hold a conversation is flying with one who won't stop lecturing you about their political views (and why everyone else is wrong....)
