What constitutes a date vs. just hanging out?

Here are the options y'all tell me is it a date or just hanging out?

    1) Shooting pool followed by coffee at the waffle house
    2) Dinner - appetizers, salad, entree, dessert, drinks, coffee the whole 9 yards; and he pays.
    3) Just coffee or tea at a coffee stand, it's Dutch Treat
    4) Dinner and a movie, he doesn't pick you up. You meet at the theater.
    5) Just a movie but you split a big popcorn and each have your own soda.
    6) You go to his place and play video games.
    7) He's a groom, so you pack a picnic lunch, and eat in one of the stables he's just cleaned out.
    8) He comes to your place you order in Chinese food and watch a video.
    9) He teaches you how to drive his 18 wheeler. Then you makeout in the cab.

I live in Georgia, in NJ the same thing happens only you go to the diner after. It's not a matter of being cheap it'a a matter of it's the only thing open in rural areas after 2 AM. Ditto diners.

hmmm..let me re-phrase:rolleyes: (PLEASE REMEMBER I'M AN INTERNET COMEDIAN from NORTH DAKOTA!! so I need a little help and cooperation here:tongue:)

--I've BEEN to a Waffle House in Alabama...there were more lumps in my grits than actual teeth among the patrons - NOT A CRITICISM! Just an observation...and the grits were okay...the butter helped!

--When I said "was he...." (mutiple spaces) leading to "cheap" I thought you'd think I would have said "was he black?" -- It's BEEN an ongoing bit....thought you would have picked up on that but you missed it. It don't make you a bad person...

--I find those cat-eye glasses extremely hot and, as you know:redface:, I support the troops or vice-versa, can't remember right now:eek: anyway...hope this clears some things up for you (PLUS! You could say you have a friend in North Dakota where we practically have NO BLACK PEOPLE because they have common sense! It's -20 below zero tonight as I type- no crap!

So if he pays, then it's a date regardless of where you go or what you do? If #2 is Dutch Treat does it become hanging out rather than a date? What if you are at Applebee's or TGIFridays rather than a nice restaurant with cloth tablecloths and napkins? Is it still a date?

Is #1 a date if you are at a bar that has a pool table and he buys you a beer? Rather than just being in his basement?

straight people have strange rituals of courtship.
date not date hang out quality time.
how there are many humans walking the planet i just don't know.
it's that whole sex feels good thing, huh?

    *taking notes for future use*

why isn't going dutch a date? and what if you ask him out, it's still a date but since you asked shouldn't you pay? why the big divide between hanging out and dating? if he pays it could be hanging out with free food......umm.... that's it.

it makes all the difference in the world. with my boyfriend, all of the situations could be a date. depending on how pressed for time we are. how long it's been since i've seen him. anything out of the usual day to day stuff has the possibility of being a date. a date - setting aside time or planning a head to see someone i care about romantically.

in support of just hanging out, if it's my FB or a be-fri, or someone i am getting to know all of the above would be hanging out. well all but the 18 wheeler make out.. but if my friend let me drive an 18 my friend should expect a little loving.

Hmm, unless we are or were FWB, I would not have intimate contact with a hang out buddy. So, yes. However, being the tarty woman I am, a date isn't necessary for making out, feeling up, or sex. :08:

And, I agree, you are looking quite cute in that pic.

See this is why I hate dating. :irked: Aside from the fact the first date usually feels like a job interview with food. Apparently I have been hanging out when I thought I was on a date. Worse when I was sure we were just hanging out he thought we were on a date. :wtf2:

    • Does it vary by state, time zone, country, climate?
    • What is the purpose of hanging out?
    • What if at the end of #1 you get to second base? Does it become a date?
    • Is #1 a date if you are at a bar that has a pool table and he buys you a beer? Rather than just being in his basement?

NJ if I shave, shower, brush my teeth and leave my house to meet someone other than a representative from the IRS; it's a date!

    i don't know.

go gay - pick up a girl at a bar. have sex at her place or bar. go home. talk shit to your friends while playing video games, drinking a beer and eating old chinese take out. plan to go to a bar with a pool table the next night. repeat.

    gay is so much easier.

    I agree!

As you may have guessed either me or my friends have experienced all of these. The concept of hanging out not being a synonym for date is new to me. I guess it's my older generation.
