I really don't care to waste time on people that have no impact on my life. There are so many of us who could be conceited based solely on the people who care for us. Just ignore the naysayers.

There are so many other truly bad people who can affect us directly. The ones that bug me pale in comparison.

Well, that's kinda true there, Ellie. But when you consider that a personality such as KW has emoted so many mixed reactions, it's hard to be fixed in that posture.
It's true he's no psycho killer or maniacal mad man, but he's not exactly altruistic either.

I never expect a celebrity to be altruistic. Yes, there are some, but the majority are only after their next hit movie or song or to keep their Q rating high. Some speak out for a cause whether it's in the public or self interest.

One thing that bears mentioning is how they may incite a follower to act. That can become my business because my personal space could be violated by music that I care not to listen to or activities I'd prefer not to witness or be part of.

I agree, EllieP. We have asshole pop icons APLENTY. Too many for me to waste much time pondering any ONE of them.

Imo, the WORST asshole pop icons (who are likely to have impact on MY life) are those running for high office.

Not defending him - but I would ask who is the entertainment world really is? Granted there are some folks who are more altruistic than others - like Peter, Paul & Mary, Harry Chapin, Johnny Cash to a certain degree, but they all found ways to get paid too.

I came back to this thread because one on my second cousins - mid 20's - was by my house today doing some work for me and the subject of Kanye came up. One guy said pretty much what the consensus is here, my cousin thought about it and said, "He's like the guy who beats off in a booth at the downtown McDonald's. You know he's there, you just ignore him."

I would not go that far, but it was his take, so there it is . . .

I don't defend him either, Keen. Yes, he's said/done some pretty a-hole stuff. But, like I said, he's not alone.

Generally, if I give these people much though at all, I tend to start by categorizing them as either self made, or born with a "silver spoon" (into money, royalty, power). I tend to give more "props" to the former.

Also I think each person's opinion about these "celebrities" and to what degree they tend to rub us wrongly, is in part a reflection of ourselves, our own values, beliefs, and ideas. That applies whether we're speaking of a Kanye West, a Ted Nugent, or a Phil Robertson.

i think he's a total hoser and a fake. he married Kim Kardashian. I knew he was off when he made that "George Bush doesn't care about black people" quote and although I agreed then and still do now years later, that was a personal Kanye ratings grab.

While i dont like him as a person to insult his music just because you dont like him or that type of music is ridiculous. he has made several amazing albums and great songs and as performer he is pretty good. Just because hes an asshole doesnt mean his music is bad and if you dont like Hip Hop dont listen to it

Hes garbage all around. And his 2600 sweater clothing lines are fraud. His music is the worst and his ego is bigger than kims ass.

Even assholes occasionally do great things I am not denying that. But his music is an extension of his narcissist personality disorder and garbage attitude. As Mark Cuban would say " for that reason...im out".

im not saying i like everything hes made but to say his music is the worst is a huge overstatement. separate him from his music because they are two different things.

I hate Chris brown But hes an amazingly talented singer and performer and i respect that. Kanye may be a terrible person but his music is far from the worst.
