Issues with being naked in front of others

Hey y'all. Probably a stupid topic but was wondering how are you guys with being naked in front of others, especially after the gym for showering etc.?

I think my biggest issue with being naked in front of others and showering with others is the hair on my body.
I am in Germany and having hairy pits and pubes is pretty much a big no-no and automatically attracts attention. I don't know if I would ever feel comfortable which sucks, cause I should keep my body and body hair as I want it!

But most people don't see it that way and some are downright disgusted by hair in those places. I should probably just learn to say ''Fuck it'' but it's rather difficult, especially if you are already not very social and kind of awkward.

I'm also not comfortable being naked with others around, in person. On the internet though, that's a whole 'nother thing. I am surprised about the Germans wanting it not so hairy. I've been there numerous times and found it to be the opposite, they seem to let it all grow wild. Maybe things have changed in more recent years, as it's been a while since I've been there.

But it's not up to them to dictate what you should do. I get that it's not easy if you're not confident enough to do that, I really do. But definitely don't change anything because some strangers disagree with what they see.

I grew up with the open gang showers at gyms and other sports clubs, and back then I suppose everyone was fairly hairy so there was never an issue of looking different. I have mostly light brown hair, bit darker pubic, chest and legs. But I've gone the other way, I started trimming at first, but now I shave pubic area and trim the remainder.

Used to wonder if anyone would notice and say something at the gym, but it's become fairly typical for men to groom or shave these days. Nobody seems to care how you look whether it's the gym or a nude beach.

I would say do as you please, it's your body, your choice. If they don't like it, look away!

I also was super shy in locker rooms when I first started working out.

In my past, I was never in situations where showering in a group situation was required, so I never did it. When I decided to join a gym as an adult, it just happened that the gym I chose had open gang showers. I decided to embrace the facilities I was given, and have worked through it. Today, I am pretty comfortable being naked around others.

My only advice is to start with small things - get used to not wearing a shirt in the locker room (use a towel or keep shorts on). Then work your way up to being naked for short periods of time. I don't know the culture in Germany, but there are likely many hairy German men (I think it's a fact that there are hairy men all over the world).

From my experience, most men are overthinking what others are thinking of them. It is a process, but something I think you can make happen.

I use to be one of those at the gym where I would wrap the towel round me and slip my underwear on underneath. The more I went and saw others (strangers) were comfortable showing all regardless of size, shape, build etc. it helped me relax more so didn’t need to hide under a towel whilst putting underwear on. That’s the only time I’ve been naked around anyone, though really keen on trying a nudist beach.

It's a real shame that younger men have gotten so upright about body display and body hair.I believe that exhibitionism is a normal part of masculinity and should be encouraged. I suppose everyone should do with their body as they please, and certain men have serious reasons for keeping their various parts under wraps, but I am actually annoyed by guys in locker rooms who will only change their shorts while they have a towel wrapped around their midsection. I think half the fun of locker rooms is letting it all hang out and checking out what each other has! I make a point of it to take my time undressing and dressing, and I don't bring the towel to my locker so that I have to walk buck naked across the entire locker room in order to get one on the way to the shower. That makes for maximum exposure time. I also enjoy wearing gym shorts with no liner out on the gym floor. It's the next best thing to wearing nothing at all. My dickprint leaves little to the imagination and it sends a signal to anyone looking that there's nothing wrong with having a penis. I feel the same way about hair: I have some body hair but not a lot, and do not shave anywhere but my face. Do most guys in Germany really dislike body hair? If so, thats really a shame. Hair is a natural part of the human body: it's okay if you want to shave your own hair off, but it seems weird to me to be disgusted with seeing it on other people. I think some guys are forming unhealthy expectations about the body from watching too much social media!

I have lots of body hair, and when I'm not trimmed or waxed I don't like to show myself naked because people tend to stare. I usually keep it trimmed and I have no issue with being naked in front of others.

Are you sure you’re not misreading their desire and envy for disgust? I’m naturally smooth, with small hair patches in my pits and groin that never need trimming but almost no hair between my knees and shoulders, I look at guys like you in the locker room with jealousy because I wish I had a lot more body hair, a big bush around my cock and hair peeking out under my arms would be a dream. I d look at your naked body before your shower and wonder how stinky your pits are and fantasize about bending you over spreading your cheeks apart and study all the curly hair surrounding your hole and take a big whiff of it. I've been showering in communal showers since I went to college in the late 80's / early 90's. Many of my gyms in subsequent years have had open showers. I was still closeted in college, so I was initially primarily worried about getting erections. I was able to get over this by gradually acclimating to increasing durations of nudity (e.g. in the college dorm bathrooms while waiting for a shower stall) before I "graduated" to using the communal showers at the gym with my dormmates after working out. My bush and legs were a little on the hairy side, but manscaping wasn't really a thing back then (except maybe for swimmers for aerodynamics, etc.), so it wouldn't even occur to me to trim. It just felt great to have learned to control the erection issue so that I cold show off that I was uninhibited about other men seeing my penis. It felt--and still feels--very masculine ever time.
I came out in the late 90's, at a time when gay men were very into shaving chests, and trimming everywhere else, at a time when the idealized body was particularly muscular, so I started to manscape. I still do, but prefer a more moderate approach. I now trim--rather than shave--my chest. I still trim my legs and bush--mainly because I'm particularly hairy in my lower parts, way out of proportion to my chest hair--but I trim my legs at a much higher blade setting than in my early gay days and eyeball my bush, also at a higher level than in my more manscaped younger days. I do this because this is how I prefer to look particularly when I'm naked in front of other guys

Sorry but from when I can’t remember I thought being hairy, having pubes, a hairy chest, armpits, ass, a treasure trail was the hottest thing ever. Still do. My number one thing I look for in a guy. Don’t know what the big thing of shaving or trimming down is - embrace the fur.

It’s a real shame you feel that way. Just fuck them I reckon. Who cares. You be you. It can be confronting at first. I do understand that but it’s a good skill to learn as it builds self confidence and is a good male bonding space. When you can have a normal conversation about the weather or sport or politics amongst need men not bothering that you are all nude, that’s success. And that’s a very manly, liberating space to be in. The sense of humour and the ribaldry is part of men being men together. Perhaps make a joke about their over-shaved fussy preening. Such fussy vanity is hardly manly at all??
