Jack Edwards

I have thought for a while now there’s no way he reads that many books on top of everything else
I’ve always thought this a lot of booktubers. Never have I once bought into the idea that it’s actually possible to read 10 books in 24 hours. I don’t really think it’s possible to read close to 200 books in a year either

I read 235 books last year, and this year I’ve read 47 books so far, but I do read everything! Primarily literary fiction and nonfiction, but also graphic novels, plays, novellas, YA, Children’s middle grade fiction, essays, memoirs, etc., reading is just what I do with the majority of my waking time and I’m in fact a slow reader. If it’s your preferred thing to do and there’s motivation and time it’s not hard. Everything is checked out from the library digitally as a eBook or eAudiobook so there’s absolutely no cost involved. Prior to this my yearly reading hovered around 50 books a year. In March 2020 I stopped reading until April 2021, not a single book. Reading is like a muscle, the more you do it the stronger and better you become at it. I actually set out to slow down my reading for this year, but it’s not working.

He reviewed 7 celebrity books like a week ago. Maybe you’re just not watching his content as much anymore?

Most of those celebrity memoirs are older and he’s talked about them before, I think the Paris Hilton is the only recent one.

Ever since he got caught scamming people who subscribed to his special subscription service for 20 Pounds a month with access to a private Discord and then he didn’t add any unique content they exposed him on Reddit for taking money and not providing anything he finally apologized and I think refunded much of the money.

His stationary business also folded and it all seemed to break him and he stopped reading and fell into a slump. Lately he’s just been promoting awards he gets, book festivals he going to and book hauls for books he receives, but never seems to be reading. Many BookTubers have questioned if he’s read what he says he has as he talks about things so superficially. He’s become a BookTuber who doesn’t read and people on TikTok keep trying to defend him that he’s in a reading slump.

Sounds reasonable to me. Also makes sense why he wouldn’t be forthcoming with that kind of intimate information if he’s still in the midst of it. Honestly, good for him for taking everything in stride and continuing to make videos.

Not a fan of the Booktuber gatekeeping. Regardless of what books he’s actually read, he has a clear love for literature. Yeah, it sucks that he’s lying. But name a YouTuber who hasn’t. It also seems clear that people follow Jack because of his personality and aesthetic more than any clear cut opinions on things, as he doesn’t seem to have those even when he clearly has read what he claimed. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Plenty of BookTubers like Merphy Napier talk about things outside of books and are more personality led, and I’m not aware of the same kinda disregard being levied at them. If people want KrimsomRogue-eque intimately detailed breakdowns of books, they’re not going to be drawn to channels like Jack’s anyway. And there’s room in BookTube for both types of creators to exist without invalidating each other.

Everybody goes through slumps. I myself have dropped hobbies for years only to come back to them later when I feel reinvigorated. I think the biggest hurdle for Jack is that he’s built his brand around books. But if he did shift his content to a more broad range of topics, I don’t think he’d lose that may subscribers overall.

He seems to have completely given up on writing his novel, he never mentions it anymore. I think he’s more interested in living the life of a high end influencer then anything else and seeing what he can get for free like that luxury glamping in Scotland he did with that blond girl beard he hangs with.
