JC Chasez

In terms of talent, JC is probably the most talented boy band star ever. But it takes more than talent to succeed as a pop solo star. Even Nick Carter, arguably the most popular member of a boy band, struggled as a solo act. What you need is GREAT songs. Justin had them. The rest didn't. It's as simple as that.

I do think JC should have released more albums, like Nick did. It's a damn shame we never got to hear more of his amazing voice because he gave up after his first album flopped.

The label definitely had something to do with it. It took a decent budget to get Justin the producers and co songwriters he had on his first project (aka Timbaland and Pharrell). And even after Justin’s debut single did okay-ish at best, they still pushed him hard. The label was clearly not as invested in JC. While Justin’s sex appeal peaked at the right time. By the time they went solo, JC was cute but Justin was clearly sexier and more willing to fully embrace his sex appeal and had less of a corny and uncomfortable look and vibe compared to JC.

If Justin hadn't dated Britney I think he would have flopped too.

Like I love you wasn't a huge hit.

Cry me a river was the song that truly launched Justins career and it was because he was basically calling Britney a cheater and had a Britney look alike in the video.

Britney was the biggest star in the world and it came out at just the right moment where she was kind of overexposed.

Cry me a river blew up like crazy and made Justified blow up with it.

JC didn't have a megastar ex or anything to spitefully cash in on for publicity and without cry me a river I think Justin's solo would have only been mildly successful cos the songs are cry me a river on justified wouldn't have blown up without cry me a river, no way would rock your body have been a huge hit, after cry me a river he was considered the boy done wrong by teen girls.

Ironically he's the one who cheated on her left right and center but that's a story for another day.

@Empirerec That whole rant is so off-topic, dude. This thread isn't meant to discuss JT and Britney (you're also clearly biased so you can't argue this topic in good faith).

I only brought him up because he did have the right material to succeed, and if you listen to JC's debut and Justin's debut back to back, it's hard to not hear that.

It sucks because JC could've had a fantastic career. He was super talented, a great vocalist, a great dancer, good stage presence, and a decent songwriter.

Yeah I tried to make it smaller to like a paragraph but the editing option ran out.

Justin did benefit enormously from being a superstars ex at the peak of her career and making a break up song a few months after their four year relationship ended.

JC didn't have that, nick didn't have that.

Cry me a river was light-years more successful than like I love you and really launched Justin.

He was smart to capitalize on it, pretending cry me a river/britney didn't play a role in his crucial first albums success is rewriting history. It's his most iconic song!

We're talking about two different things. You're talking about marketing, I'm talking about the strength of the material. "Señorita" alone is miles better than anything in Nick's or JC's debuts (and I love both of them, but facts are facts). If it wasn't "Cry Me a River", it would've been another song from that album. And if that album didn't do super well, he still had an even better album under his sleeve (FS/LS). Pretending JT's albums weren't good is disingenuous at best.

Back on the topic at hand, JC could have come up with a really strong album. But he gave up too soon. Who knows how "The Story of Kate" or whatever name he was going to give to his second album would have been received.

I don’t care what he is 😭. And I don’t even think he’s “gay”. I just said out of all the N’Sync dudes he was the one that gave me the most queer vibes back in the day. In retrospect, Lance was clearly queer as hell. While I was way more into Justin then.

Get out your feelings. It’s a rather old post about someone who hasn’t been relevant on the music scene in many years.
