an idiot with nothing to contribute to the thread is bumping it to the top to see if other people will put content in the thread.
or sometimes it's an even bigger idiot who doesn't know what bumping is and use it to follow threads because they don't know there's a watch button at the top of the page
yeah but if you only see bump used in this site youll assume its a lingo used specifically here and not else
because bumping is only a thing done in forums, not on the internet in general. so if this is the only forum you use, you're not gonna see it elsewhere.
but even so, if you google what does bumping mean, the 4th definition would've told you "4. (in an online forum) post on (an inactive thread) in order to move it to the top of the list of active threads."

The person is "bumping" the thread up to the top of the board, in hopes that someone actually has new content that they can share. So bumping the thread up for renewed visibility.
