A quick google suggests they've already dabbled with Amish story lines. He often seems to end up in Canada when filming Hallmark so that's probably what it is.

Last set of pics there are from S5 Brothers and Sisters when I think Luke really probably started working on his body. Having not watched it first time around and then binge watching 5 seasons after developing Luke Macfarlane obsession disorder I'd caution against the binge watching. It's good TV but the repetition of some scenarios gets boring / annoying quickly when viewed in quick succession!
