he seems very interested in retiring. not just for family time but also to have free time to do shit he wants to do. like being able to play a videogame he wants to play without needing to overanalyze it for content
i don't think he went into like full retirement. he's retired from being on camera. i think he still works behind the scenes. so he won't get bored because he still gets to do the stuff, he just doesn't have it consuming all his time and he gets to enjoy his free time. like, when the round of interviews after the announcement happened, he told stories about not taking holidays and when he did having to pack recording gear in case there was a need for it, basically still having to work on his time off.
like, i think he still very much wants to be on camera, i just think he might want to only be the talent and not have to really worry much about all the behind the scenes work. so until he does get something where he's just the face, he'll probably stay content only doing some behind the scenes work for company
I'm very surprised that he retired from being on camera. I was sure he would keep doing GTLive since its just livestreaming. Honestly, we won't really know what he plans on doing until like 6 months in the future. Though I hope he stays with livestreaming or at least maybe doing vlogs or something. Going from being on camera for 10-15 years to just being gone from the public eye is odd to think about, considering also he is only in his mid 30's
He's not the first youtuber to completely abandon being on camera. Granted, most times I've seen it happen it was smaller channels with like 100k subs. But they simply stopped uploading and never came back. At least mat told us he was leaving.
In the last meme review he did say he'd like to do something like taskmaster, and he did campaign hard to host jeopardy. So maybe he plans on trying to become a gameshow host. But like i said, he only wants to be the talent, and not have to do all the behind the scenes work as well
Thats why i'm surprised he didn't stay with Game Theory but have other people doing the research/work and he stayed the voice/face of the brand.
I think he was in too deep and couldn't just be the face of it and would always end up doing more work, so he had to fully step back to be able to get back his personal life
Exactly, once you're that deep as CEO, host, writer, producer it's very difficult for others to get used to not going to you for everything, it takes a lot of work and discipline, when it's just easier to go cold turkey and separate entirely.
