Trudat. It would be different if he was a fitness model claiming to be natty and selling meal or workout plans.
Well actually...he is a fitness model who models Charlie underwear trying to convince you that if you buy the expensive underwear you'll look like him. It's not that much different from a fitness model trying to convince you that if you buy his workout plans you'll look like him.

This is ridiculous and no one thinks this.

You think people think people buying underwear think the underwear will change their bodies? Surely you're joking.

No they are not the same thing at all actually.

It doesn't. But given the rampant body dysmorphia in the gay community, it's important to be aware of the context. He has the physique he has thanks to a pharmaceutical company.
Body dysmorphia is more common with straight men. Just look at those MR Olympia straight bodybuilders. Straight bodybuilders use steroids, way more than gay bodybuilders. Therefore their body is bigger. Straight bodybuilders are never satisfied with the way they look. They always wanna be bigger. Gay bodybuilders are usually on the leaner side. Therefore they look better, smaller and healthier. Straight bodybuilders are more insecure with their body than gay bodybuilders. Matt is a lean muscular gay man. He doesnt look like he have body issues.

My teenage students believe it. They keep talking about such or such item of clothing to look like "real men". They keep buying shit from that-loser-in-a-Romanian-jail's website and all.

It's not new, my gran started smoking in the 1950s to "look as sexy as all the Hollywood actresses". Her whole generation chewed gum all day, smoked and drank Coke to look "as cool as the American soldiers who came to save them from Germany". When I was 17, her sister told me I should smoke to look more like a man. My mum was delighted ^^

If that kind of crap did not work, companies would not have been spending insane amounts of money advertising it for the past century and there would no such thing as influencers and celebrity ads.

People buy these things to look "better" or more "attractive" sure, they are not buying them to look exactly like the models doing the advertising. Far be it from me to suggest the average person is hyper intelligent but I also won't assume the average person is quite that stupid either. :joy:

The 'attractiveness-halo effect', which suggests that desired personality traits are ascribed to attractive people over unattractive people is the main reason why "hot" people are used so often in advertising. No one is denying how ads work. But to suggest selling underwear is the same as selling a fitness program is nonsense. That's all I was refuting. The eagerness and reaching some here have to ascribe negative/dishonest traits to these guys is insane
