Also, you have the relationship situation backwards. Max didn’t want to get engaged, married or have kids. That was ALL Andre’s’ life goals. Max was trying to accommodate Andres and it seems like he wasn’t getting anything in return other than a half interested relationship

Max clearly saw his way out when the house burned and he took it. Good on him!
