I think it was just a way of keeping himself anonymous but now has become a part of his image.

It's privacy pretty much; he apparently never wants attention when he goes out in public and wants to keep it that way. Apparently in old Eboys shoots he would get really nervous about being seen. I don't think it's an insecurity thing at all and allegedly, according to everyone I've ever seen talking about his face, he's quite nice looking under the bandana
