I've always argued with a few friends that there are gay metalheads present and proud. But they continue that me and Rob halford are the only ones around. =P So I just wanted to make a shoutout to any gay, bi, or hell straight metalheads out there. Tell your favorite bands, where you think the genre's going and the ultimate question. Megadeth of Metallica?

I'll address the Metallica/Megadeth argument this way:

James Hetfield >> Dave Mustaine as a vocalist
Hetfield = Mustaine as a guitarist
Marty Friedman >>> Kirk Hammett as a guitarist, a musician and a fucking institution.

The answer to where metal (should) be headed is in my signature: Opeth for the fucking win. If you're not into deathy stuff check out their newest album, but Ghost Reveries and Blackwater Park are their best, the former being IMO the best metal album of the decade thus far. It's mature death metal, and alternatively some of the most achingly beautful music I've ever heard. Think about that for a second.

Also a big Meshuggah fan. And ironically enough these are the only two screaming/growling bands that I can even tolerate. Otherwise I'm really into proggy/melodic stuff like Fates warning, Dream Theater (cheese and all). It's gotta be slightly musically advanced for me nowadays.

I just gave in to my metal/shred side and traded in my strat foran Ibanez RGA121 today.

Metallica for me, all the way. Although I am not ashamed to say I have the entire Megadeth catalog on my iPod, next to my entire Metallica catalog (including rare stuff). But I did dowload free torrents of all the Megadeth.

Dave's a great guitarist, and a one-of-a-kind vocalist. I often wonder what Metallica would be like if they still had his vocals. They would definitely be an even bigger juggernaut than they are now, but I've got much love for Kirk. He's my favorite guitarist.

Contrary to a few naysayers I've heard recently, thrash Metallica is definitely back on Sept. 12.

Well i'll give it to you that Hetfield is a better singer than Mustaine but no way is he a better guitarist! xP The Quality of Daves songwriting and the sheer badassery his riffs bring are way beyond the simple things Metallica turns out in EMinor. But as far as Opeth goes, they have to be one of the best modern bands i've heard. And one of the best bands period. Their elegance and complexity have me hooked. Usually a band with songs that long loose my intrest, but Opeth manages to keep you there simply by combining so many emotions in one song. Not to mention their vocalist is siiimply amazing!

And there's nothing wrong with an Ibanez! xP I have one and i'm currently building a strat aswell.

I'm quite the fan of progressive (of all varieties), death, and folk metal, with some of my favorites being Opeth, Rudra, Dream Theater, Meshuggah, Dark Angel, and Moonsorrow.
