I don't feel sorry for people who use drugs. It's a choice, and he chose that path.

Sounds like you don't know much about addiction. A choice is when you're at the mall, and don't know whether to get brown or green shoes.

Some people don't know how vulnerable they are to addictions until they make a mistake, and things go from bad to worse very quickly.

Making a mistake is not exactly like making a choice. If it involves something you can easily become addicted to, turning around is extremely difficult.

That was stupid. No, it is a choice. You don't just all of the sudden wake up one day and say, "oh, I think I'm going to get addicted to illegal drugs". You choose to do drugs. I'm so tired of stupid people making excuses for stupid junkies. It's called, don't do drugs. It's called, don't be an idiot. People seriously need to wake up and stop making excuses for their stupid decisions, or as you call them, "mistakes". I'm only 20 years old, and I feel way more mature than a lot of people who are decades older than I am. It's sad.

Oh, and by the way, I'm glad I don't know anything about "addiction". You know why I don't, because I'm a smart, and not an idiot. People make the choice to try the drugs in the first place. It doesnt have to do with a simple mistake, it has to do with a poor error in judgement and not having enough intelligence and sense to just say no to begin with, if they would have then they would have never risked getting addicted in the first place. So there.

I think you might want to check your shit at the door man. Intelligence has JACK SHIT to do with addiction and drug use. I think if you did some research on addicts and intelligence, you'd find that a large percentage of users and addicts are extremely intelligent.

I feel for you....honestly. You obviously have not had enough bad life experiences to know what it is like to turn to something to make you feel better. I'm glad that you are so fucking intelligent that you don't ever make errors in your judgement, and that you are so fucking smart that you get to look down your nose at other people and scoff at them saying, 'well I'm smarter than you b/c I've never done drugs.'

Fact of the matter is....you have no fucking clue what drove these people to do drugs in the first place. Some were stupid...got bored one day...and starting using. The rest (the majority) of addicts simply had something devistating happen to them in their lives, and had no where to turn other than drugs. I'm not excusing them, there are better solutions, but they hit rock bottom.

At least they have to balls to face life high....instead of being a pussy and offing themselves.

God help you if you do hit rock bottom man. I'd like to see what all choices you make to try and save yourself.

You speak of being so mature for your age and how smart and intelligent you are but yet in the same statement you calling someone an idiot. Which is something that mature people does not do, by the way. And while someone choosing to try drugs is an error in judgement, addiction to drugs and losing all control is not.

Now, I have never tried drugs and I have not intention of trying them. But, as a nurse, I have worked first hand with individuals with various addictions, and I can assure you it has nothing to do with not having enough intelligence. Addiction can affect anyone.

And as for as having an error in judgement, if you are bless enough to live long enough, you will have a few yourself on various matters. Its part of living and learning.

you know alcohol is a drug, which is legal, and alcoholism is a huge problem. so what you're saying is no one should ever drink? why don't you go to an AA meeting and call everyone stupid, and see what kind of reaction you get. another huge problem is addiction to pain killers, which many people have to take when they are in a horrible accident and are prescribed by DOCTORS, but then they take them for so long they get addicted. Are these people stupid because they don't want to go through pain everyday? and others, which probably relate most to this guy, turn to drugs because it is the only way they can find happiness in this world of hate and pain. I guess everyone should hope to live in as perfect a world as you....

have you ever had a friend addicted to drugs? if you had I think you would feel differently.

I first saw the pics and then the article, I thought he looked a bit scary in his face, like he was in drugs... So it is obvious actually. Not cool for him, sometimes they can't help that they started drugs. Well actually you can if you really want, but when drunk people don't know what could happen too them.
I'm not talking about experiences!

Thanks Luv. Obviously this person is the idiot. And an immature idiot at that. Did you see where the post ended with "so there"? I mean, come on. I think he should be banned for being mentally underage.

Thanks ElDorado. A very good point. Some ignorance and immaturity just defy explanation.

There is substantial documentation in medical literature about the positive concordance between substance abuse and other hereditary mental disorders such as schizophrenia, depression and bipolarity. Whether it is a type of personality disorder (untreatable by medications), a form of dissociative or mood disorders (largely treatable by medications) or otherwise remains a subject of intense research and debate.

I have treated many different types of substance abusers, from the garden-variety alcoholics all the way to highly secretive opiate addicts and they all have one thing in common--an addictive personality. It is difficult to discern the features of an addictive personality without substantial training and experience in the field, but those features can and do exist. When you are told that you have an addictive personality, you really have to watch your lifestyle carefully.

Like many other substance abusers, Michael seems to have gone through turbulent ups and downs, much like a bipolar patient. It is sad to see, but nonetheless, he chose his path and now must live with the ruins.
