wow... that's really shallow... a guy does something really noteworthy, courageous that could be a first in the NFL... and this comment is judging the guy on his looks???????... wow!!!! It doesn't matter if he's cute, ugly or 300 years old, there's got to something special in this guy to take this step forward to make a difference for gays in athletics, particularly gays in the NFL... never easy to be the first, to do something thousands of others have never had the courage to do before... this guy is taking a stand, this guy is making a difference... that's what truly matters!!!!
You done now? Glad you got that out of your system? Why don't you copy and paste it on the CNN.com comments section. This whole site is based on the physical judgements of famous men. Yes.. We're all proud of him. But I'm not gonna treat him any different than I treat all the other football players we discuss on this site because he isn't any different. That's what his entire message was today. So calm the hell down, get off your soap box and let's get back to doing what it is we do here.
Your comment was the first after the original post, and it came across a put-down of someone who put himself on the line and did something no one else has ever had the courage to do.....so I'm sorry you don't get it... I'll call him courageous, and say he's a beautiful person because of an inner strength to take a stand to make a difference for a lot of people... that's got to be appreciated... and I'll also say he's physically beautiful too and that's very cool also, but I truly appreciate him for being the first to take this big step...

I think it's wonderful. I think it's more wonderful that he's already been out for months among his teammates, coaches, family and friends. He isn't doing anything dramatic. He's just saying, "Hey this is who I am. Being gay is part of who I am, along with being black, a man, a football player. Okay, let's play." No scandal, no famous boyfriend. He's an excellent player, by most accounts a thoroughly nice guy. Ideal candidate to be the first openly gay NFL player. Why? Because I think the upcoming years for him will be more about his football career, and less about his sex life. It might affect where he places in the draft (before the national press being told, it was expected he would go in the mid-third round). I doubt, though, that it will hurt him too much. I think most owners and GMs will see him as a good player, a good teammate (by all accounts), and an upstanding citizen. The occasional bigoted players, fortunately, don't run front offices. I suspect, too, that he will sell more than his fair share of jerseys and other merchandise (we gays are avid consumers), especially if he does go on to be a good player. I think his coming out is brave and beneficial to other gay players; I also think it is smart on his part. He doesn't have to worry about rumors or blackmail or betrayal. He now gets to focus on playing football.
On top of the above statement, I think he is quite cute, and I would gladly go on a date with him. Or two, because I don't put out on the first date.

The way in which he chose to come out is not dissimilar to what the English diver, Tom Daley, did recently. In both instances it was low key, open, honest, and very classy.
During his video statement he comes across as a principled, grounded person of great character. Don't know what will happen with his football career, but I will wager this guy will be a success at whatever he does. I wish him only the best.

Agreed friend. It's a big deal. He's opened the door for many more gay football stars to come out of the closet... And I for one can't wait ; ) lol
