He slid into the back of his knee, which put Pedroia on the IL for awhile. He played sparingly the rest of that year while hurt. After which he had numerous surgeries over the next few years only playing in a handful of more games before being forced to retire and preserving his ability to even still walk on that knee.

That’s horrible. But doesn’t sound on purpose right?
