So for a few years boxer briefs have reigned supreme.

here in the UK until about 2008 it was all loose plaid boxers but then they died out. Here people used to be made fun of for briefs but now they seem to be coming back and you get made fun of more for boxers.

when I’ve spoken to straight mates about underwear they all say they like trunks and get quite passionate about how bad loose boxers are. Briefs seem a bit more neutral but you see a lot of celebrities wearing them and they are starting to get a foothold. Like ck briefs, not y fronts.

i tried to buy some regular boxers in gap the other day and the sales attendant asked me if they were a gift for my dad.

so what’s popular in your countries? Stereotypically guys in the USA and Germany wear boxers, Holland and Denmark wear bbs and Australia and Asia wear briefs.

is that still the case?

Im from Holland and the majority here wears tight boxers, not so much lose boxers. I wear briefs (slips) most of the time, just enjoy how they feel. Ive seen a few others also wearing slips from time to time. I'm 28, not sure what the young (i.e. teenager) generation wears these days.

I'm sure that it depends upon the age group involved and the guy's own preferences as well. You would need to do a proper scientific survey to get this one right.

Anecdotally, in the US, among the guys at my fitness place (roughly ages 18-60, but skewed heavily toward early '20s), I'd say that it's an even mix of boxers and boxer-briefs. The only briefs that I've seen wore on Asians. Sometimes, guys change from boxers to boxer-briefs or briefs or compression shorts for exercising (not sure how that counts). This is, of course, biased towards guys who work out and (presumably) have some concern for their physical appearance.

Boxer-briefs really started to become popular in the 2010s around here.

In the uk definitely tight boxers briefs are the norm although you do see guys in briefs sometimes - I wear both. Baggy boxers pretty rare and seen I think as very dull. I lived in Australia and most lads there also wear tight boxers altho sometimes you see young guys in briefs. Even Asian countries are now going down the boxer brief route. Which is a shame!

I wear loose boxers- hate the feeling of tight underwear squashing everything. When I'm not at work I go commando so loose boxers allow things to be more free and almost feels like I'm not wearing underwear

Irish guy here, it’s all boxer-briefs/trunks here these days, although I’ve noticed CK-style hip briefs are becoming a little more common

age and social group- urban/metro vs rural make a big difference too. If you look at the stores, boxers, boxer briefs, boxers, bikinis (slips) and trunks are all pretty easy to find, which means there are men out there that are still wearing them. Grab 100 men off the street and strip them down, you'd find a wide assortment- along with freeballers, too.

Briefs and boxer briefs most common from what I see in Ireland. I’m a briefs man myself

As an aside: my impression is that guys usually start off wearing what their mother buys, usually the same as she buys for father. Then as soon as son is able to chose his own, he wears what is currently fashionable. Until he gets married, when either he continues with the same style or wife decides. Then when they have a son, it starts all over again
However, gay guys keep up with / set the fashion.
Me, I have a selection of 9” UnderArmour Boxerjocks, M&S microskin trunks, hipsters, and briefs. What I wear day to day depends on how I feel, the weather, what I’ll be doing, what else I’m wearing ... And I usually colour coordinate my underpants with the rest of my outfit.

Thailand and Vietnam are mostly briefs from what I saw. Japan is mostly a mix of briefs and trunks. The women in those countries are almost all briefs, not many wear thongs. Australia is mostly briefs too.

Europe has a lot of trunk/tight boxers, more briefs than US. US is maybe 25% briefs.
