Luke Prokop is the 1st openly gay player to sign an NHL contract. He is currently in the Edmonton Oilers system, playing for the Bakersfield Condors, the Oilers' AHL farm team (signed a 1 year free agent deal). In my opinion, if he wants to crack the NHL, he likely needs to improve his skating & foot speed. He is 23yo so still time for him to improve & develop. It'll be tough for him to crack the Oilers' lineup at this stage though.

He's still a professional athlete. While the chances are slim, it's not 0.

Though this is hockey we're talking about... and as "open" as teams may present themselves, hockey is known for their mega toxic culture. They'd sooner have sexual and domestic abusers playing in the league than someone openly gay

Yes no other sport has that.. baseball, football, soccer…. It’s more a sports culture than hockey alone.
