Probably because they both are supposed to be 12 in the novel and the other boy is a crazy psycho who killed his baby brother and keeps dead animals he kills himself in a fridge. It’s also implied that Patrick was molesting Henry during that part and he fights back after being offered oral sex. They cut that character off the film almost entirely probably because of censorship as it could‘ve been pretty upsetting for viewers.
