He's never once said he is gay and just by the virtue of being LGBT, he participates in LGBT programs like Drag Race.

Taking advantage of the gay community would be like the instahoe models who are straight but have like 95% gay fans and are milking them for all their money on onlyfans.

Like it or not, he has dated and been with guys so there for he isn't straight and is a member of the community.

Also he absolutely faces the difficulty's of being LGBT like literally look at everyone in this thread calling him a faker and invalidating his identity just because he looks more masculine so he can't possibly be queer.

You’re missing the real reason a bunch of us aren’t buying Nico’s shit.

It’s not because they present masculine and then throws on a dress and some glitter.

It’s because we only hear about their queerness/fluidity/gender identity when there’s a pay check waiting for them.

They go to the opening of any LGBTQ* event they can, casually drops “oh, I’ve been working with queer youth in Bali” and peddles their poetry and other products in every single damn hashtag on every post.

No one cares that Nico presents this way or that way, we care that what they present seems 100% disingenuous just to capitalise and profit from the community they claim to suddenly be part of after many years of presenting cis and hetero with their wife - and continuously doing so when it suits them.

Well said! 100 agree!

They are a celebrity who is of course going to promote their own product/work/etc. when they can. They still want money. But they present themself this way 100% of the time. People can be annoyed with Nico for being up their own ass and thinking they are God’s gift to poetry and enlightenment and all that — I won’t take that away from people. But we as a community HAVE to get over the misgendering, the accusations of pandering/disingenuous allyship, etc. They are who they are and they have been pretty open about it for years now.

If you don’t like Nico, move on. They aren’t hurting anyone.

I agree we have to "get over misgendering", but not in the same way you do. Stop getting so upset because someone says he when referring to someone who presents very traditionally masculine 99% of them time. Trust me, I understand the nuance behind gender fluidity and whatnot, but the world just simply isn't going to alter their language and perception in the way y'all expect them to. There are so man awful things happening in the world, and not to say that you can't experience pain because someone else has it worse, but just take a minute to reflect on what a privilege it is to have your biggest concern be the use of a pronoun.

It's not so much the misgendering that's even the issue as much as people calling it fake. Calling him he isn't so much as offensive as the idea that people are positive he's straight and hetero and just phony even though he's been out for years and there's proof. It's just gross and offensive.

There's proof he's bi or pan, yeah. But I think most people are saying his portrayal of gender seems to only become relevant when there's publicity involved. His entire arc on Celebrity Drag Race was about being non-binary and came off so disingenuous. If anything, he just seems like a try hard. But regardless, I don't think he is exempt from criticism just because he "identifies" as whatever. If our community must come together as you suggest I think that part of it is addressing people who seem to be exploiting the community for their own gain. We just call it how we see it.

You can criticize him for being annoying or a try hard without invalidating his identity. This isn't me saying you can't criticize him, I'm simply saying that questioning his identity is gross. It's just as gross when it's done to us all the time. We as gay and bi people shouldn't be invalidating others because we know how it feels and how it hurts.

Again, you can dislike someone's personality but their identity isn't up for debate. We can't want respect for ourselves and then not give it to others.
