Sometimes I just can't pee in a urinal. The big problem for me is when it is really busy - if I feel like I'm holding up the line, then my sphincter clamps tight. If the bathroom is mostly empty I can usually pee at a urinal. Troughs are a little creep even though I like to peek. I'm a grower so when I pee there is not much for the others to peek at.

I think is has very little to do with body shame or feeling we won't "measure up."

It's more related to the fact that we are CONDITIONED that normal body functions are done IN PRIVATE.

If we lived in a society where we could just whip it out and relieve ourselves whenever the need arose, I doubt that any of us would feel shy at a urinal.

About the only time I feel apprehensive about using the urinal is, oddly enough, at the local clothing optional hot springs (OLT - Valley View Hot Springs). They have a bath/shower building by the swimming pool that features private showering booths and a toilet stall with locking door but the urinal is just hanging on the wall in the open lobby. For some unknown reason I'm always apprehensive that some guy or gal will walk in the door while I'm in mid stream. Mind you if that did happen it would just be someone who has already seen me completely naked sunning out by the pool or soaking in one of the ponds but the simple act of pissing in the urinal in a mixed-sex public setting seems to bring out uncharacteristic modesty in me.

Being naked is one thing, peeing (or taking a dump) is quite another!

I had to deal with using a urinal in mixed sex TOILETTES several times when I was in France. I knew before my vacation that it would be very likely that I would encounter unisex bathrooms with urinals right out in the open, so I wasn't shocked when it happened. Women using the sinks are right there by the urinals and can see the men peeing. Because the native people are used to it, it no big deal to them. Only tourists react to the open urinal arrangement. I figure that if the urinal is there, it's meant to be used. It was a novelty, for sure, and I liked it.

I'm 50/50 (between using the urinals and stalls). It really just depends on what type of pants I'm wearing. If I'm in button fly pants or nice dress slacks, I use the stalls cause I hate fumbling around with all of the buttons and I always tend to have a lot of splash back.
Other then that, I'll use the urinals.

I love French toilettes. And in the UK (at least in the West End) we have those pop up urinals. They are very welcome when one needs to go but that is literally pissing in the street with no privacy at all. I recommend everyone to try it!

I use the urinal most of times. It's practical, it is usually closer than the cubicles, it usually smells better (or less bad) and it's perfect for some exhibitionism.

The outdoor urinal are available for hire in Southern California, but I haven't found one yet. I can't wait to give one a try.
