You can’t stand “firm” in your “straightness” or “gayness” if you’re not legit hetero or homo. Ultimately, I don’t care too much about identity. But we haven’t gotten to a place of accepting how individual “sexuality” is, the different ways it can be fluid for some, and understanding the gender, sexual, romantic, emotion, commitment spectrum is. So, a lot of men (even queer identifying ones) still adhere to denial and manipulation and to doing things out of insecurity and ego.
