“Ask a woman anything,” so even though this isn’t really about sex, I’d really like a woman’s opinion, and I hope it’s ok to ask here. I like reading this part of LPSG and think the women here are really interesting and helpful.

I want to get a pinup tattoo but recently read they are sexist. I know it’s my body, but still…. How do you feel about pinups?

How are pin-ups sexist?

Pin-ups are classical tattoo art and industrialized western culture. As long as the planned tattoo isn't porn-fied, degrading poses and random semen jets, the is nothing inherently sexist. Some of the earliest female empowerment and feminist iconography came from and was represented in pin up art.

Rosie to Betty, Witches to Cowgirls. It's all good.

eta: we're ink lovers here. If you get it show it off! Pretty please.

On one wall in the tack shed on our ranch was a single page from a 1963 pinup calendar. I'm told that my grandpa hung it there because it reminded him of grandma. I've seen pictures of grandma when she was younger, and I think she could have given Miss April a run for her money!

I always thought it was such a neat picture, but I never wanted to look like that. Too girly for me.

Spit in the wind.

Sexist? Nah. Art? Definitely.

Thanks everyone. I’m going to do it. I’m going to draw it myself and post it when it’s done. I appreciate all the responses. Thinking about putting something on my body for the rest of my life, I definitely didn’t want to regret it because of something I never considered before until I read that article. Seems like that person was out of the norm.

Not yet. Any suggestions? I’m in San Francisco and visit Las Vegas a lot. I want a Gil Elvgren style.
Google Las Vegas tattoo artists and you will see who there is but apparently club tattoo and basilica are two of the top studios
