Polymaths my arse.

Why is human reasoning is finite? Why can we not understand our origins? Infinity? Why can we only think in terms of time? Why these limitations?

I think we have way too high of an opinion of "silly" reasoning. Reasoning only serves an one "earthly" purpose: survival.

St. Anselm of Canterbury is to have used reason to give one of the greatest arguments in favor of the existence of a god. Although the proof is most clever, it fails to convince many. Why? Because reason can't explain that which dominates over the rational human mind: the irrational.
Reason can never prove the existence of a higher being.

That's why mysticism is fascinating. Truths are neither reasoned out or "felt" by the senses. A truth is a truth.

Yes, delusion and malarky are reason resistant.

Does not mean they are not delusion and malarky.

Your 'argument' seems to be that the inability to prove a higher being proves a higher being...

Sorry.. Proof is evidentiary. You have no evidentiary proof of a higher being...

The largest set within the realm of things that can not be proven...are things that are not true or that are impossible.

Thus, the lack of proof for God makes it highly likely that the idea shares the most common features of unporvable things...
namely, non-exsistence.

I like chocolate chips...
But anyway aside from that...
You all forgot to mention gravity and mass and the way the two are connected. And how we still are not sure what gravity is or how it works.. It's called time-space.
And the black hole in the center of our galaxy and that there are many more then just that one.
And the collision happening RIGHT NOW beteeen our galaxy and another.
And that the dark matter is the majority of matter of the galaxy if it exists.
And that the majority of the 250 Billion stars in our one galaxy are binary, making our single star as a single star even more rare.
And that there are at least 200 Billion more galaxys out there with thier own multitude of billions upon billions of stars... [250 billion stars multiplied by 200+ billion galaxys = my eyes glazing over.]
Thats all just some basic numbers to wrap your mind around, if possible. I know I can't.. I can not even count as high as a billion...

My argument is there is something beyond reason which is irrational. For example, infinity is not rational. No one can explain it. Nor can anyone explain what "timelessness" is? It makes us unstable to consider or ponder it (that's why it's best to forget it). But, sometimes I jump right into reason and beg it to explain these concepts to me. It says, "No, I cannot. It's beyond me.":biggrin1:

As Anselm showed, you can "prove" anything when the argument is relative to and dependent upon its own premise. I am no scientist but I would understand timelessness as a state in which light is not moving. Equally, infinity is not a number, in this respect it is like the antithesis of zero.

No, Anselm's argument fails because it's using reason to explain the irrational. They don't mix, like oil and water. Reason only has a place in the finite and in time.

Why does infinity and timelessness so mind-battering? Why can't we just get our head around these concepts after all these thousands of years?

Blackholes are irrational. No one can explain them, nor will they ever be explained by reason. Not until the end of time. But then reason won't exist.

Just because something is beyond our reasoning powers, doesn't make it either inexplicable or irrational.

Because our minds think in the restrictive 3 dimensions or singular reality. We are still way to primitive to concieve beyond them, I think.

But they are real, and they exist in the center of almost every known galaxy, including our own..
