Back in high school, late 1970s, it was bulge city, man. We were wearing mostly Levi 501s and Levi cords and they were just cut differently back then. Wearing the classic loose boxers (boxer briefs weren’t around) guys, we’d just wear our package down the side our leg to where it would show and no one really seemed to be bothered by it. With shorts, (mostly OP), it was the same thing. And, if you were cool you’d let your boxers show below the shorts - gym shorts too. It was kind of a way for guys to express their new found sexuality but it was also kind of the fashion. Today it seems like more people are uptight about sexual expression. Even younger people seem to suppress it. Maybe the availability of porn and open sexual references in movies and other entertainment has desensitized them or made them insecure about their sexuality. Maybe it’s the result of women’s efforts to emasculate men, or the fact there’s confusion over the myriad genders out there. Maybe it’s stress over the need to have a perfect life. We had it easy.
Yah, early-to-mid-70's was even more so. I, and others, had polyester pants that were so tight, you could see we were cut, let alone see the shaft in them. And this was normal and nobody thought anything about it. Of course, this was also when girls wore halter tops with no bras with nipples quite visible as they flopped around walking. It was definitely a freer time, coasting from the 60's in a way. I guess this is why I have little modesty, and find young guys at the gym running off to a stall to change so incredibly silly. lol
