What's the shame? Queer isn't just gay men and women. There's an entire umbrella, and they deserve representation just as much as we do. Don't get me wrong, both the british original and the first adaptation to the US were both incredible, especially for their time, but you also can't pretend that it ignored a lot of the factual HONESTY around the gay community; how racist the LGBTQ+ community can be, the fact that we tend to erase bi people, that we're not as inclusive of trans people as we should be... etc. (This is a general statement, not indicative of any individual person.) I mean, there wasn't a single BIPOC in the the main cast. Lol.

I am willing to give the new version a shot. I'm a little disappointed we're not going to see any bigger dudes on here but I mean fat guys are almost universally allowed to be mocked without recourse so we're not quite there yet, I guess.

As a black man I don’t feel the desperate need to see black gay people on tv. If it happens it happens and I’m fine with it. Especially if it’s organic and the actor is good at his craft.

I read the article on the whole cast and I’m not interested at all. Some cute guys but I know the story lines will be boring / fake and just agenda driven. Just like the casting is agenda driven.

Lol casting is a serious thing that has multiple steps. The fact they cast shows without thinking "oh we have zero POC" EVEN IF unintentional it was careless and they had several seasons to correct it.

it was cast in 2000, the world was a different place back then! Queer characters were pretty much non-existant on tv and queer characters who had love lives and sex lives just didn't exist. Did they drop the ball regarding casting other minorities? yes, but most shows of that era also had next to no visual minorities. The original US show was "agenda driven." It was the only show depicting the authentic struggles of gay men at the time. The main character was in a serodiscordant relationship with a HIV+ partner and adopted a HIV+ sex worker teenager. Several seasons involved political struggles against repressive laws and law enforcement. Among the plotlines of the side characters: getting addicted to meth, engaging in a sugar baby relationship, adopting a baby, etc.

They never just had normal drama that straight people experience. It was all hot button topics. IE, agenda driven. Maybe you just don't realize it since the show is now old enough to be considered "recent history" instead of "current events"?

Let’s just say that the agenda of today isn’t the same agenda as back then.

When I came out I was only aware of lesibians gays and bisexuals. I understand what they stood for and what it meant. Today is a completely different world and without getting too deep into it I just don’t think I fit in or agree with most of it.

there are somethings that I just morally and logically can’t come to terms with or understand and because of that I refuse to support most gay causes / charities because I’m very sensitive as to where my money goes.

In an ideal world I’d love to discuss these issues and explain my POV without being called a big or some other hateful term but I know this is not the site for that type of nuance based on what I’ve seen on this forum.
