personally
dont believe we have been overly successful
we are all in the same boat trying to do our best
John KEY a former NZ PM who is known to be successful in his time of 9 years in office, said the other night if he was in charge'things would be entirely different'
sooo politics
and yes
i take into account stats and per capita etc

plus
pretty boring when some say
we are the best/have the most equipment etc, bullshit
we dont say that btw
comparing your achivements to ours
pathetic

Dogs and Cancer
Because we share many of the same cell types with our pets, they develop some of the same cancers. Comparative oncologists study these parallels.

Share Tweet EmailCancer, at its simplest, begins with DNA mutations that cause uncontrolled replication of abnormal cells, resulting in tumors and illness. There is no single “cancer”: each is dependent on the cell type affected and the type of mutation that causes it, which is why there is no single cure for it either. There are standard treatments that can be used for many cancers, such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Targeted treatments can be highly specific and very successful. For example, Gleevec—which is used to treat chronic myeloid leukemia (CML)—stops the activity of the protein responsible for CML, and can restore patient life expectancy to normal.

While some breeds of dog have a predisposition for particular cancer(s), others may have a higher risk of cancer overall.

While human bodies get cancer 4-6 times in a lifetime.. our body often solves that issue.. we never really notice it. Once in a while our body doesn’t succeed in eliminating those cancer cells in our bodies (while certain food types are factors) and sugar is a debatable #1

Awesome :) I hate bullshit as well and that people actually believe it says a lot about the current state in the world. Or maybe even about our species, considering scientists have confirmed that we’re getting dumber and dumber. Have to stop award stupid people

we are a busy lot over here
lockdown 2020

Have we contained the coronavirus? What happens next?
Every day, the number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 eclipses the number of people newly infected.

But New Zealand isn’t out of trouble. We’ve simply wound the clock back to the virus’s arrival, when there were just a few cases blooming here and there. No other country has gone back in time as far as we have, or has a better shot at eliminating the virus, and the rest of the world is watching us to see if we’ll succeed. It’s as though we’ve flipped back to page one of a choose-your-own adventure.

Today, there are only three possible endings to this story: another outbreak, containment, or elimination. Which will it be?

How takahē cheated extinction: Unconventional families
Last year the takahē population reached a milestone of 400 birds. We looked at how the birds have managed to survive in some of New Zealand's toughest habitats, and the answer may be their unconventional family dynamics. Threesomes are, says takahē ranger Jason van de Wetering, "far from unheard of". And if one partnership doesn't work out? They try a new one.

Jason's job involves keeping track of takahē affairs in Kahurangi National Park. “I’d probably have to draw you a diagram,” Jason tells New Zealand Geographic, “but Rerehu used to be with Lily, but he left her—she’s still by herself—and hooked up instead with Te Uatorikiriki, who was with Scoop at the time. Meanwhile, their neighbours were Pipper and Matariki, with their foster sub-adult, Tupuānuku.”

But at some point, Rerehu jumped the fence again and lured Pipper away from her partner. “So Rerehu had two female partners,” continues Jason, “and Tupuānuku as a helper, even though they’re not related.”

Scoop has been especially unlucky in love. His next relationship, with Erewhon, failed too. Now, he and new partner Hyde may be hoping third time’s a charm. It’s little comfort to Hyde’s ex, Tametame, who clearly couldn’t bear the sight of his belle with a new guy and left the Enchanted Forest. Keep reading...

Together at home: Stories, videos and activities to share
Every day of the lockdown, we're posting a story or video that can be shared among your family, plus a new activity for younger readers. Here's the full collection of stories and activities, and with them some talking points to fill your days at home together.

The latest story, above, is about what happens when you lose a limb: you visit the leg shop.

Great reads: The riddle of the Rifleman
The Rifleman set out from Hobart on April 14, 1833, and was never seen again. The fate of the ship, her 12 crew and six passengers, remained a total mystery for 179 years—until artefacts collected in the subantarctic islands finally solved the riddle.

Browse our selection of favourite New Zealand Geographic features: stories that take you to the far-flung corners of the country and introduce you to the animals and people who call them home.

In France, dozens of dentists have taken pictures of themselves naked in their offices and posted the photos online with the hashtag #dentisteapoil — or, dentists in the buff. The images have shocked people around the world, but the intention was not to draw attention to French dentists' naked bodies. Health specialists across Europe are going nude to show how naked they feel without sufficient personal protective equipment.

been wondering how the dental profession has been faring through the world
