Rhett from SCM

Remind me again, what was the reason for SCM going out of business so soon? Was it only because their models just went independent and founded their own studio (AustinZane), or were there other business problems to begin with?
Lots and lots of problems. Lots of excuses from the owner Matt. Here's my take aways

1) editors kept quitting- not sure if it cause its porn or he didn't pay enough or the work environment was bad.
2) vegas- it's very expensive there to rent a studio and warehouse. Plus he was advertising all over to try and get auditions.
3) money- Matt liked to claim he paid the guys too much to make a profit and that he would loan advances to some of the regular guys and then they would disappear while owing him a thousands.
4) consistency- there were not regular updates. Sometimes it would be 3-4 weeks and Matt would say it was fine b/c there were thousands of hours of older stuff to watch.
5) keeping models- the first gen of models (Dean, Brett, Paul, etc) all left suddenly basically at once. Then it was all the HS guys- there was all sorts of drama and scandal there and only Rhett really stayed for a while. Then it was Austin/Zane as regulars and a couple more that were semi regular. He was spending so much money on the auditions but none of them returned to do more. When AustinZane left he basically had no one left.
6) Matt's creepy- both Dean and Zane (I'm sure other) have said he was handsy, controlling and mean.

I'm sure there was more and i think all this is accurate - but it's been 10-15 years lol so forgive me if i got any of the details wrong

Based on Zane’s book, the guy who ran it was a terrible businessman overall. He decided to relocate from Las Vegas to Kentucky, and that didn’t do much for recruiting models.

SCM always seemed like the weird version of ASG. At least the ASG owners were pretty upfront on wanting to have sex with their models.

Yeah, the move to Las Vegas was dumb. I guess the owner thought a bunch of horny and hot 20 year olds would come in and film after losing their rent on the blackjack table.

I noticed the SCM site is still up. Anyone know if the videos are still available/downloadable? I was thinking of subscribing to pick up some of the videos I don't have.

I think the last time I subscribed was a couple years ago. I would imagine they are all still downloadable, but some of the older ones the quality is terrible and occasionally split into 8(!!!) parts.

I always found Matt to be kind of annoying, and weird, but I do think he paid his models well and was typically upfront about what he wanted. In the early episodes, he negotiated on camera and I remember thinking that it was an absurd amount of money for 5 minutes of kissing.

You know who I think is an asshole? The Straigjt Fraternity guy. Not to mention every model went limp when he would start sucking them .

We don’t get this kind of gossip enough when it comes to porn. I would devour a seven part podcast on SCM, ASG, Sean Cody etc

Get a model from each company to speak on it. Baby, that would be everything! 😘🌻

Out of curiosity...and I think it's safe to ask now that so much time has passed...where the heck was this HS where he recruited Rhett and so many guys? Like I don't need to know the exact name of the school, I'm just curious as to roughly where in the world this was lol

I feel like 2SCM only had a few things going for them back then:
1. Rhett, obviously lol, with all his hotness
2. Pushing scandalous boundaries and creating intrigue and drama (i.e. including Rhett's real dad, and HS friends)
3. Early days of Internet porn
4. And obviously, the whole straight guys thing

I feel like it could have gone somewhere or lasted a bit longer if they had gotten more of their house in order, hence why I was surprised that they folded as early as they did

To me, it all went to shit after he lost all those original guys, like Paul, Rocky and the incredible Broderick. Everyone to their own tastes, but I had no desire to see a bunch of high school kids.

BTW, wasn't part of the reason SCM went under because of his involvement with one of his models...maybe Ashton?

I agree. The original group was awesome. My favorites were Duke and Caleb. Their chemistry was off the charts to me.

Arizona or New Mexico- I can't remember which. There were many many opportunities to fix that site but he made every bad decision.

We need to remember that at SCM's height, Sean Cody, Corbin Fisher, ChaosMen, Randy Blue, and CollegeDudes and other studios, were demolishing the gay internet porn market. For the same price, SCM was basically offering the gay equivalent of soft-core porn. When they started around 2003, it could work, but by the late 2000s Sean Cody and Corbin Fisher were producing two films a week with fresh new college aged hunks from across America.

Spend $20 to listen to SCM owner yabber on and get us at most a passionless BJ and handjob. Or spend $20 seeing some of the hottest All-American looking men of the decade fuck, suck, rim, swallow loads and eventually take it raw. It's no wonder SCM couldn't compete.

The SCM model bonuses were crap. SC was splashing like $1.5-2k for a simple jerk off scene with a free trip to CA and hotel room. For most of their models, that was a big deal. Then fucking could get you $2-3k a scene. Models were making serious money. Models at SCM weren't paid anything close to what the other studios paid out.

But another issue is the studio owner was simply mean on camera. And what sort of goofy business plan required a MASSIVE warehouse/studio in Vegas? They only moved to vegas because competition in SD was steep since SC was there snatching up talent. SCM could never recruit nationwide which also doomed their growth efforts.

Bad business all around for SCM.
