Madden doesn't owe us anything. Chances are he is out to the people that matter in his life. Just because he is a public figure doesn't mean we have to be privy to every aspect of his life.

I mean you're being loudly incorrect. No one owes themselves to anyone else. Privacy is allowed. I'm 100% out to everyone in my life, and I'm also able to respect that not everyone is comfortable with being out. You are not the arbiter of those people who "literally cannot" vs those who can.
Gays in Hollywood are thriving? Not having the doom of damocles over your head for coming out isn't thriving. Having your career shifted because you come out is not thriving.
Oh, and the "there are way more people against that" doesn't fly when there are anti-trans policies popping up all over the country, signed by the same people who literally want to overturn gay marriage. You keeping your head buried in the sand isn't cute.
Eh, that’s only true depending on your perspective and ambitions. There have still been no leading male roles in decent budgeted films for “gay presenting” actors. And no matter how you frame it, if you are a conventionally attractive and “masculine” male, Hollywood will still be looking for you to appeal to women and “straight” guys. Even now, there’s still a lot of industry closest pressures and industry image building, especially with good-looking, “masculine” actors. Let’s not be naive.
While, as I already mentioned, Richard doesn’t owe anyone details about his private life. You can call him a “coward”. But you really don’t know his dimensions, traumas, struggles, insecurities, or his journey with the gender, sexual, affection, romantic, emotion, relationship, commitment spectrum. The only thing I don’t like are Richard fans pretending as if he’s not at all being calculated in his presentation and what he will and won’t present. The fact that he’s been filmed showing hetero affections in the past but not showing homo affections is no accident. Other than that, it is slightly disappointing that he’s not unabashedly “out” publicly. But he really has not given people any reason to come at him.

I would wager that almost half of the guys in the entertainment industry are homosexual, bisexual, pan-sexual, have dimensions or have experienced degrees of fluidity or have multi gender-based paraphiliacs/perversions, are somewhere in the gender, sexual, affection, romantic, emotion, commitment spectrum. Yet, only about 20% of those dudes are unabashedly “queer” publicly. So, I don’t like how folks pick and choose people to shame. And yes, the hetero pressures and gay shame are even more extreme when you’re trying to be a big time leading man and are conventionally attractive and “masculine”. It’d be great for everyone to just be themselves without the financial and sociological and ego trappings. But you never know people’s internalized and external dimensions and struggles and priorities. I just ask for folks not be messy, not to be hypocritical, not to abusers/creeps, not to be users and leeches, not to promote shame or superiority. And as far as we know, Richard doesn’t fit into those categories. So, just leave him alone.

IIRC Jenna Coleman is the only partner he's been particularly public about. That was quite early in his career, and also by far the longest relationship he's had, at least since entering the public eye. Since then he appears to have walked the walk about keeping his personal life private—I don't recall any big PDAs with or public acknowledgement of the women he reportedly dated between Jenna and Brandon Flynn.
From “reports” it appears Brandon was his first legit relationship after Jenna. There really was barely any time between Richard and Jenna supposedly breaking up and when he was first publicly seen with Brandon. So, no matter how you frame it, he as was willing to show hetero affections publicly but not homo affections. I’m not holding that against him, especially if he was just “coming out” to his friends/family or was just entering his first legit same-sex relationship. While no one has to give PDA. But I’m also not gonna play stupid or pretend that there’s no calculation in his public presentation like some of Richard’s fans are pretending.
You can maybe all stop pretending that scrolling trough Twitter, Insta and LPSG while playing armchair psychologists make any of your opinions facts.
All we know for sure is that they hang out. Everything else is pure conjectures.
Do we all fantasize about him being bi or gay, sure! It is still just speculations. He probably is bi or gay based on how much they are together, but it is still just speculations.
And anyways, I much prefer him acting like he is just living his life as he wants to than doing something like, for instance, Demi Lovato who is literally holding a press conference, a live insta, and a magazine cover page everything she changes identity and preferences.
He is not hiding, he is just living his life. Quite publicly since we have photos of it. If you want to be an activist then be one, but you cannot force others to be. But the only thing you are entitled to is his work product: movies and tv shows.
Let’s not be corny or play naive. We all know Richard was in a relationship with Brandon and then Froy. There is no “fantasy” there. You don’t have to play dumb in order to defend him. While anyone asking him to publicly attach to an identity or to “officially” come out or to be some queer spokesman are being asshats. However, there’s also no denying that he was perfectly fine with being perceived as “straight” and was perfectly fine with the paps seeing him indulge hetero affections. And now that he’s been in two successive gay relationships he’s much less with okay with the PDA and has been much more low profile on social media and with the press in general. That doesn’t make him a bad person, and I’m not judging him for it. I don’t know his circumstances and struggles. And none of these people owe the publicly anything. But it’s also the reality of things. Let’s not pretend reality isn’t reality.
My only real point is that you don’t have to bs and play pretend in order to defend someone not sharing their personal life. Just say that he doesn’t owe anyone anything and keep it pushing.

Huh? Richard and Jenna ended things for the last time in 2015 while he and Brandon weren't a thing until around the end of 2018. Maybe you're thinking of that other girlfriend he had (blanking on her name and I'm too lazy to look it up because I don't care lol), the super young one that dumped him right around the time that he started up with Brandon.
