I can't pretend to know what pushed Mikos to take his own life.

But male porn stars not only have to worry about appearance when getting older, but also penis performance. A 70 year old femal may not look good, but sha can still fake female orgasm.

But a male can't fake an erection or ejaculation. Dirextors expect males to be able to get hard and come on demand.

If your life is made of porn business only, and you see that fading away, it can give someone the image of rest of life without anything meaningful left to it.

Perhaps porn star should be a job, not a career. Or perhaps porn starts who have made it a career should seek a way to evolve into directors before their body gets old enough that they start to feel inadequate for the job.

The psychology behind that is interesting, but again, you'd have to be mentally deranged to commit suicide, no matter what (unless you're terminally ill, trying to sayve other peoples' lives, etc.)

True...45 isn't that old for a daddy niche...but he was far from being a fresh face. His popularity as a porn star was dwindling down, even if he had continued to make porno films. I do agree, though, that he could have continued escorting for some years yet, but even with that, he would have started to get less and less business - it was coming. The sex industry isn't a lifetime industry for anyone (by 50, it's about over for gay men, unless you do it for recreation, one-off appearance). Plus, it's harder to perform as a man as you age as there are physical pressures: erections and ejaculations.

Unless he had found a rich gay man to take care of him, or transitioned out of the sex industry, he would have had no financial stability. Homelessness would have only been a stone's throw away without getting other employment. Interestingly, he somehow afforded to live in NYC for the past few years and donate to gay charities; so he had to have been escorting like crazy, or had had some repeat clients who were paying him a pretty penny to maintain his lifestyle there (gay escorts still don't get the money the top female escorts do in general) . But don't forget that was also on a student visa at 45, meaning his days were numbered in the US. Could he go back to Hungary with nothing and start a new life for himself? He supposedly lost his lover a few years back because he wouldn't stop doing porn and escorting. He probably saw a dead end in his life. In a mentally ill person, this could spell disaster.


You read others' posts on his web pages announcing his death. The speculations run the gamut: severe depression (I believe that), dwindling career in sex industry, student visa issues, became HIV+ from escorts, copycat suicide (slew of gay porn star deaths this year), etc.


All these things considered, we can all speculate as to why someone commits suicide. But many men could have done exactly what Arpad did without ever having committed suicide (I'm not sure how you could escape mental issues working in the sex industry, however). He probably had severe mental problems most of his life. But as I said before, people who commit suicide like this have a predisposition to it. His lifestyle only helped to bring him to this point.


And one more thing: There was this one debate on a gay website that had posed this question: Would Arpad have committed suicide had he had worked in a cupcake shop? I don't think the question was pertinent because he probably would have never opted to work in such a place. He, by nature, wanted a good, long taste of the wild side; he wanted to play with fire. He mixed sex worker life with severe mental illness. Inevitably, he got burnt and fell into the great abyss - suicide.
