GIFs are one of the oldest image formats on the internet. When the format was conceived they never expected folks to use them to post HD video (they didn't even have HD video back then). Since then formats specifically for video, namely MP4, have come along that can compress at much greater quality and file size considerations. The only reason GIFs have hung around is mostly because its one of the very few image formats that can be animated, and is fairly easy to use.

Got it thanks, so the only advantage in using gifs so heavy here in this website is that they are almost immediately visible unlike videos, if this changed it would be so awesome

If you got to the site ez gifs, you can compress files sizes and a load more stuff, without much quality drop. I used it all the time back when I still made gifs from tumblr, instead of manually trying to make it smaller, I just set ez gif to max file size as tumbles limit (2mb at the time).Got it thanks, so the only advantage in using gifs so heavy here in this website is that they are almost immediately visible unlike videos, if this changed it would be so awesome
