Why? I think it was good. I liked it.
Spent an embarrassing amount of time but finally got his best moment in the episode.

I’d be hard to keep a solid body/core with heavy drinking.
I really think the puffy cheeks/jawline is mostly just from (recent) filler work. It comes in waves, once it starts setting in over time, he’ll look more “normal” again.

You know at first I would defend the show against queerbaiting allegations because they had never stated they would go that route but after last season they are definitely queerbaiting with Buddie.
As soon as people start losing interest on the show they’ll start with the Buddie scenes and it’s sad that people still fall for it. I agreed though they would probably make it cannon when the show ends and not before. Hope I’m wrong though.
They try to avoid them getting together to not trigger the conservatives whilst use their chemistry to also draw in the lgbtq+ side of the viewers. Thats the classic money-making trope shows like 911 use to gain viewership. Its been done many times now, even though its unfair. On one end, I sympathize with those who are clinging on the hope because queer representation is so limited, and even if present, is only restricted to side characters or queer characters with stereotypical archetypes. On the other, I just think people are naive and keep falling for these scams on purpose.
Both are to blame in my opinion. I understand using a ship to bring in the audience but if you have no intention of ever making them canon then stop giving people hope. The audience is also to blame, one for coming up with this while theories and head canon and then act all dejected and sending hate because it didn’t work out like they imagined and two, for falling for the same BS the show has been doing for years now.
Let’s be honest the stuff fans come up with are also way better than whatever the writer end up writing. There really is no winners in this other than Tim Minear and his crappy writers who still get pay for churning out mediocrity.
You know what'd be so funny
If they made them canon, only to kill off one of them and the other made straight for the rest of the show.
Or better yet, make them canon in season finale but the show gets canceled.
