Has anyone had spinal fusion to fix thoracic scoliosis? I’m considering the surgery soon and wondering if you can post pics of your back now. I’m worried it will look abnormally straight and not look natural. Also curious to hear about your fitness abilities after the surgery because I work out about 5 days a week now and I’m worried I won’t be able to for a long time.

Our daughter had scoliosis surgery a number of years ago. No spinal fusion but she had two rods inserted into her back along her spine. Her posture is perfect and no one would ever guess that those rods are in there. Might add that she was/is an absolutely amazing dancer (hip hop at the time), only thing she can't do is roll her back, but all other movements were not affected. Good luck my friend.

I had the surgery when I was 12 years old. o_O I don’t know the particulars about my case, but it did leave me with a rib hump and uneven shoulders. I used to be very self-conscious about the rib hump, but not so much anymore. I workout religiously as well, and have been hitting the gym/training nonstop for 5 days per week for the past 7 years.

My situation is different since I had it done in adolescence. I still avoid all contact sports to this day, but am otherwise able to train with no issues (back day included). I was able to resume sports the following year after my surgery, but again, I’m not sure if that’s the norm or simply because I was young. Also, I obviously wasn’t working out in a gym back then so I’m not sure how soon I would’ve been able to return to lifting weights.

Either way, best of luck with your surgery and recovery!
