It’s clearly about Joe. He mentioned going to Tokyo and he did that around the time they broke up. It’s not about Charlie or a friendship break up

Not everything about the song will be straightforward and he might embellish a few things to drive the story but it’s definitely about the breakup with Joe.

(also seems like he visited joe again in late march?) and then joe saw the play in chichester in may.

so yeah maybe joe had moved on already a few months before but they kept trying to make the long distance thing work until may, and/or they actually broke up back in march in atlanta and then joe came to see the play anyway. judging by the slutty stuff joe was posting after he def had moved on. but japan was prob before the actual breakup. (bash was with charlie by september)

The Joe gc is literally filled with hate about this. I think a lot of them confuse Bash with his HS character and have never separated them, tbh. I don't presume to know what caused them to break up, but Bash was very heartbroken for months before Charlie, and Joe was not. That was my observation, anyway. Joe fans would have you believe Bash was the son of Satan, so just be wary we may see them in here after the song comes out 🫩
