it’s weird y’all been dictating a sexuality just by him not being the typical boy that you feel is masculine, it’s actually pathetic and unfunny when corny and pathetic jokes are made like the weirdo you’re defending. if he’s gay let him come out when he feels like rather than boxing him into something you feel like he is, respect his sexuality he claims to be.
Ok I don’t know much about Shawn mendes or the situation . I just read this article about him and some gay rumors then I come in here and see him waving like queen Elizabeth. Can someone please fill me in? From what I read in the article , he’s distressed by the gay rumors almost sounded like he gonna get pretty low from battling the rumors and all the different stuff that encourages . But on here y’all are almost dead ass sure it’s all cap ( and made a few strong arguments in my opinion ) . Someone please give me the real Tea please
the tea is that he made a rod for his own back by crying about people calling him gay, and now he will forever be subjected to gay jokes regardless of whether he takes dick or not. it's not really much deeper than that. i think he's a pretty typical, boring straight dude but it's fun to point out how suss he can be.
His personal sentiment and stigma are I’m sure quite real. By his own admission (growing up with a sister and female cousins) he comes off a bit effeminate, that’s his natural tendency.
But somewhere in the process of becoming a celebrity he became hyper aware of the comments and suppositions about him and his sexuality and that caused him a great deal of stress. There’s not much difference in the gossip piled on to Harry Styles or even Bieber at times, but it’s Shawn’s unique response that raised a lot of eyebrows.
Shawn made some really poor choices in attempting to quash the rumors which instead just revealed his own insecurities (and arguably homophobia). He made an infamous video stating emphatically that he wasn’t gay, then in a series of interviews (often he brings up the subject unprompted) most notably the infamous Rolling Stone article, he admits the subject causes him panic and that he feels he “needs to be seen with a girl” just to keep rumors at bay.
What I think a lot of people recognized in his words and attitudes was the exact type of fear associated with being outed—in other words, no straight dude is gonna get so worked up in a ball of panic because Taylor Swift dabbed glitter on his face, yet he admitted to waking in a panic of sweat hours after that vid posted.
Not downplaying the pressures of a celebrity or what it must feel like for everyone to assume your sexuality before you might have even figured it out for yourself, but had he just adopted a fuck it attitude or said it’s no ones business, then the gossip fire would have burned MUCH less bright—he added way too much fuel.

Cindemilla has had her own fair share of gay rumours & racist incidents so the theory is their publicists came up with an elaborate PR plot & pretend these two childhood friends suddenly fell in love. And AceFantastic is 100% right, no straight guy would give 2 flying fucks about being called gay, especially if he was rolling in millions. An insecure closet bottom scared of losing everything, fame, money etc would be waking up in cold sweats stressing about the gay rumours.
That's why everyone on here and Twitter calls him out daily. We've all experienced this devu crap before with Ricky Martin, Lance Bass, Tom Daley and even fucking Elen DeGeneres

people react to things differently, if it’s constantly shoved at you of course you’ll grow tired and annoyed and have to constantly shut people up about your sexuality. that doesn’t make him gay at all, we’re all human here.
It is always fun from time to time to look at this thread and see how nothing ever changes and y'all always cat fight and pull each other's hair LOL

Mostly agree, although I sorta feel like he couldn’t win either way. So much of the talk is rooted in his physicality which is literally inescapable. I don’t think Harry or Bieber have ever had the amount of chatter around them about sexuality that Shawn has had and the two years where Shawn did ignore it didn’t seem to stop the talk.
So do we know for sure if he’s gay? Like is there anyone with like gay stories like that he hit them up or something?
Oo… I hear ya, but Bieber definitely got his fair share (most of that seemed like trolling and jealously—remember, a lot of guys hated on Bieber before it was cool to like him)… but Harry perhaps got it even worse than Shawn… I mean, half of Tumblr (not much of an exaggeration) was dedicated to trying to out Harry, or more specifically “Larry”… Shawn is popular of course, but not 1D popular. Harry was annoyed a bit early on to the extent it created this tension between him and Louis, but Harry (and Bieber) adopted the same fuck it attitude and instead of bringing it up in every interview or dwelling on it they just lived their lives… when Justin was chasing Selena all those years or fucking Brazilian hookers, or when Harry would sneak in every model and starlet into his hotel or yacht—that’s not a show, that’s a couple of young hot superstars living the dream, not caring what the mean twitter trolls think about their sexuality… but when Shawn went with Hailey to the Met (only for her to run off with Bieber a couple weeks later) or when he makes out with Camila center court in an arena, or crowded restaurant, or public beach surrounded by pap camera then all anyone can think about is that quote “feel like I need to be seen with a girl”.
But Styles clearly did care, as he made it part of his whole marketing schtick. And he was hardly annoyed, he encouraged the speculation because it gave him attention - even when it led to Louis being annoyed by it.
