Why not?

I prefer to sunbathe in my Speedos. When I go to the beach, I'll wear my Speedos under a pair of board shorts - I take the shorts off when I lay out and, depending on my mood, may or may not put them back on when going to/from the water or strolling along the shoreline.

Because they're way too see through when wet. I wouldn't wear them in a family space. It's only gay guys who would be happy to see me wearing these I think and a minority of women. I like the idea of showing off in them but I'm realist when it comes to who actually wants to see.

Suggestions on where I could wear and it be legitimately be well received?

You seem to be over-thinking it. Just wear them and be happy. You are clothed and covered up. If people stare, then that's their problem.
