Do you prefer watching the sun rise seeing it as a greeting for another day, or are you more of a sunset person, pleased that another day is coming to an end?

I prefer the sunrise. There's a certain lift seeing a new day get started.

I love to see the sun rise, but am very rarely up early enough to see it. I do enjoy sunsets. I see the sun set over the Pacific many evenings and love it.

Sunsets, although we don't get to see them over water. I live on the east coast and I can count the number of sunrises I've seen on two hands.

Here's one I saw recently from K8's home in Wales:

It depends on what I need. Usually when things aren't going so well I go down to the beach and take in a sunset. Both as awe inspiring and provide a lift.

Sunset! Sunrises are never so beautiful and then there's that whole morning business to go through and I'll be tired and yearning for bed while it's light out. I like to go to bed just before it starts to get light.

It actually depends... I love both... but if it's fall/winter I would prefer sunrise... if it's summer... I would say sunset... but then... if I'm looking over sea/ocean it's sunset... and over hills or river... it's sunrise...

    Here are my favs..
First is a sunset over grand canyon..
Second is a sunset behind the thick rising fog moving over Pacific towards California, taken from Highway 1, somewhere north of Santa Cruz...

I am a morning person, and prefer the sunrise. That said, there is nothing like the sunset on the gulf of Mexico. Damn.

I am on the other side at the moment and I love the sunrise, which sadly I have been up every morning to witness. Home in Europe, I couldn't call it.

Being an early riser (early and often), and living as I do on the US East Coast, I, too, like the sunrise.

That said, there's something majestic about the 'green flash' one sees along the horizon at the very moment the sun sets over the Pacific Ocean.

Still, thinking Pacific Rim, there's also: 'On the Road to Mandalay/ Where the flyin' fishes play/ And the dawn comes up like thunder/ Out of China 'crost the Bay!' [Rudyard Kipling/Oley Speaks, 1908]

Props to both, but for me, seeing the sunrise isn't really a good thing. It means that I have been up way past my bedtime. Waking up early on the other hand to see the sunrise is even worse for me, because once the beauty of the rise fades it is all bright and noisy out. The human world wakes up. The real beauty of the morning to me is well before the sun actually rises, when you can hear all the birds and the natural world wake up before the first signs of light on the horizon. Like they know something we don't know. Not many signs of humans at this time.

    Sunset FTW.

If I had to choose between them, it would have to be sunset. There's one that sticks in my mind from nearly 20 years ago - driving down beween Achnasheen and Gairloch on a Sunday evening in October, just coming down to Loch Maree and seeing the sun set out over the Western Isles and Skye. There was scattered cloud shading from rose to deep red highlighted in gold, all framed by Meall a' Ghiuthais and Slioch in silhouette. It's one of the most beautiful scenes I've ever seen.

Can't say I prefer one over the other. Three mornings a week during the summer, I'm floating on my back in the Mediterranean watching the sun come up big over the point and the red streak on the water from there to my eyes is pretty wonderful.

I've always been a sunset girl and living on the west coast am honoured to get to see it set in the sea. (as per Nick8s fab pic!)

That said, having just started uni, 4 days a week I am driving east at sunsrise and a fair few of them have been incredible. Stunning colours and this time coming up over the hills.

I'd still choose sunsets, I think, as they are at the end of the day and relaxing.
You can exhale as you watch.

But sunrises are a very close 2nd - more invigorating and for some reason makes me want to inhale!!!

    hmmm... weird.

I like them both, sunrise through forest trees with morning dew and misty air during spring is beautiful, sunset is fantastic for romance.

I've seen some remarkable examples of both, but I prefer sunrise.
