So I recently got into cruising and had hookups where I gave head to complete strangers.

As much as I use protection for anal, I never did it so for oral sex and I wonder how possible it is to get syphilis by sucking dick.

I spent too many years sexually repressed and when I finally started my sexual life going, I went into cruising a lot, but recently a friend of mine told me all the problems she got from a case of severe neuro syphilis and that got me scared as hell.

I think its a strong possibility. Listen you can still have alot of fun but always be responsible and take care of your health. Discuss Safe Sex and practices with partners and get tested regularly. Syphilis can be dealt with so long as it is caught early.
And if possible, start taking DoxyPrep.

Cruising is an unhealthy and foolish behavior in my opinion.

You'll likely end up with many STDs.

Yes, you should stay at home, wrap yourself in bubblewrap, and read treatises on how to avoid all risk by cutting out all the joy and excitement from your life.

Cruising is the only way to enjoy life? Funny because people who aren't gay are perfectly capable of enjoying life without it.

It's a disfunctional behavior that was born out necessity when gay men were forced to live in the closet.

Now, it's a reckless and empty sexual practice that should have gone exinct by now, but gay and bi men with sex and porn addictions have kept it alive for their own screwed up reasons.

FYI dont forget the block/ignore button is your friend ;)

Fair enough but the STD in the community are sky high. I also think it's problematic behavior for other reasons

Other reasons as in
Things like the risk of arrest for things like indecent exposure or public lewdness. There's the risk of assault or theft in high-risk environments, where you’re often around strangers—many of whom have drug addictions to things like methamphetamine etc...

I also generally believe behaviors that encourage an extreme erosion of normal sexual boundaries often lead men down the path of sex addiction and sexual dysfunction and all the damage that can do to a persons sexual sensitivity and sexual palette over time.

Apart from the judgemental attitude, your use of phrases like "erosion of normal sexual boundaries" and "path sexual addiction" betrays a puritanical frame of mind:
If you cannot have fun, why should others enjoy themselves?

To the OP:
Neurosyphilis is a late stage of the disease. It takes months to years to manifest itself and this can only happen if you have an undetected and untreated infection.
Get tested regularly, say, every quarter, and this will never happen to you!
Also, get PreP against HIV: condoms only protect you to a degree.
For the rest, if something itches, burns or feels off: get tested and get treated!

i definitely agree with the get tested often part especially if doing it unprotected--people say use protection and take this drug and so on--
right now you can take mediations to help prevent getting hiv but its not been tested over a period of time to know what it can do to the body over time--kidney damage or liver--or cause cancer--

i take a antidepressant pill thats been out for a while that been now known to be linked to cancer--- so now i am off it and have to get used to another pill-

so i dont take anything for prevention like that because it was discovered to prevent you from getting hiv but what damage is it going to be doing if on it for a few years

so getting tested often is the answer

I personally don't take PrEP for this very reason. I view it as basically taking HIV medication as if you had the infection, with all the liver damage and possible side effects of those very strong drugs... when you don't actually have it. I understand it's useful and highly effective, and I'm glad lots of gay men are taking it and the spread of HIV is slowing down thanks to it. But personally? I'll just use condoms

well i dont use condoms due to a scare i had years ago for them being made with latex--the nightmare from it lingers on-- i know condoms out there are made with other stuff now but i still feel kind of eerie about them--plus i did bareback for years until newer types came out-- by then i was addicted to it so i figured why change
