I in the past 3 or 4 months have become obsessed with Techno. I've never done ecstasy, but would love to evenutally. I have quite a large amount of techno already but I am always open to adding new stuff to the mix. Anyone else share my love of this type of music? What are your favorite songs?

i used to dj d'nb for about 6 years.
i still produce but never go out dancing like i used to.
check out Juno Reactor "bible of dreams"
you may like it if you like "techno"
ben watkins and his mate make some intricate
soundscapes.

I'm also more into D'n'B than techno, but you may like to try some of the following... (sorry, I'm more of an artist than songs kinda guy)

Orbital :notworthy:
Slam
Dave Clarke
Carl Craig
Cicrulation
Underworld (first 2 albums IMO)
Leftfield (...not so much techno, but Leftism is still :notworthy:)
Aphex Twin (and pretty much anything on the Warp label if you want to go "out there")
Plastikman (more minimalist. His mix albums under his real name, Richie Hawtin, "Decks FX & a 909", "DE9-closer to the edit" & "DE9-transitions" are really good)

All IMO of course

That's all that spring to mind right now...

Happy listening :biggrin1:

Depends what you mean by 'techno'... do you mean the actual sub-genre of electronic music or just electronic music in general?

I'm a junglist, I'm totally into drum 'n bass. I also love Goa (psy-trance) and hardstyle. Anything that has a good beat and is made with computers, I'm likely to love. But jungle/DnB is my real love. Pendulum, Dillinja, Rawhill Cru, Adam F, DJ Fresh, Goldie, DJ Vandel, MC Kidlex, Nitrous, Future Prophecies, Baron, Chase & Status... all great jungle MCs/DJs.

I've got a pretty extensive collection, TK. Check out some of the summer compilations from Ibiza.

If you're going to try E, make sure you find a good place ahead of time...one that plays music you like, has a lounge area, and serves bottled water. Don't even think about driving for at least 4 hours. And have gum to chew, or you'll grind your teeth to the point where your jaw hurts. MDMA is a chemical cousin to speed, and believe me when I tell you it's quite a rush. The day after I tried it, I described the whole experience as "spooky fun."

And if you can get your hands on a Prozac, take one after you come down from the E...it will largely mitigate the "hangover" some people undergo. Any selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) should work, but my only experience was with Prozac.

Also, understand that you can really only roll on E once every 2-3 weeks. A recreational dose of MDMA causes a massive release of serotonin in your brain...afterwards, it takes the body a while to replenish its reserves of this neurotransmitter.

Good advice. TK: for more information, consult this page.

I go with what holsty said there - good calls one and all - I shan't pretend to have heard of all burns1de's picks, but those I have I approve of - especially Goldie, and I would add the following:

The Orb (they have a their dodgy tracks but they deserve to be listed for Little Fluffy Clouds alone.)
Prodigy - you might prefer the early stuff for the more beepyboopy electro-iness - later is boarderline electro grunge/rock.
Daft Punk

I don't know if the Bristol triphop sound fits into Techno - I class it as such, other might not: 2 biggest exponanats Massive Attack and Portishead

You want real old school 'where it all began' shit - go back to the earliest Prodigy and the Shamen and of couse KLF.

And if you want to find the Electro Techno Daddies then of course you need to get yourself some Art of Noise - but that certainly isn't techno.

My all time favourite tracks, limiting it to 5 and in no particular order:
Little Fluffy Clouds - the Orb
Born Slippy - Underworld
Voodoo People - Prodigy
Karmacoma - Massive Attack
African Left - Leftfield

KLF IS GONNA ROCK YOU! lol.

wow...alot of ex-partykids. :)
burnside i can understand...but manly banisters?!!!
whoa...that threw me for a loop.
pun intended.

Addition to the E information:

"Landing gear" is essential - The come doen off E is not fun if left to its own devices. Smoking dope always worked for me, but then I was a 10-20 a day dope smoker at the time I was doing most of my E, so that was my thing anyway - My advice is not to fuck with Prozac or similar. Far more people have bad reactions to Prozac than have bad reactions to a little reefer.

DO NOT get hung up on drinking water - hydrate sensibley - do not over do it. You can overhydrate - it isn't pleasant.

Chewing gum sounds like a bad plan - unless it is flavourless - I can't bear interesting flavours in my mouth when buzzing - it's all too fucking much. Grinding your teeth for one night ain't gonna kill you.

The frist time, try to be with a reasonable size group of friends - 1 or 2 of whom are not E-ing and will babysit you.

ENJOY IT!! It is a recreational experience - do not do it if it does not feel right.

Oh and fuck - find someone you like and trust and FUCK FUCK FUCK - it is the best sex you will ever have.

Holy shit, I didn't realize there were so many fellow junglists on this board... big ups to the LPSG DnB crew! I'd just like to add a few to burns1de's list: Trace, DJ Marky, AK 1200, Dara, Dieselboy, Roni Size, Evol Intent... also check out Amon Tobim... very cool stuff.

Oh yeah, and holsty mentioned a bunch of good techno DJs, but let's not forget the godfather of it all: Derrick Mays. The fucking man. Representing Detroit since 1982...
